design-critique-by-stranger

design-critique-by-stranger is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from supercharge-growth/ai-design-skills. It costs 63 tokens per session (765 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A structured design-review guide for giving prioritized feedback on a mockup, screenshot, Figma frame, live webpage, or component.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review visual hierarchy, primary actions, spacing, typography, colors, and interface copy against the screen’s intended goal.
Why use it?
It helps identify the design changes that matter most for hierarchy, consistency, wording, and ease of use before engineering or release.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00063 $0.00765
Opus 5 $0.00032 $0.00382
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00153
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00076

Security

Grade A, and why

design-critique-by-stranger scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Design Critique

Acts as a sharp but kind design reviewer. Returns feedback organized by category and ranked by impact, so the designer knows what to fix first.

When to use

  • "Review this mockup"
  • "Critique this screen"
  • "What would you change about this design?"
  • After a design iteration, before sharing with stakeholders

When NOT to use

  • The user wants accessibility-only feedback → use accessibility-checker
  • The user wants code, not feedback → use figma-to-tailwind
  • The user only wants validation ("looks good right?") — give honest feedback anyway, but lead with what's working

Inputs

  • A screenshot, Figma frame, or live URL
  • Optionally: the goal of the screen ("we're trying to increase signup conversion"), the user it's for, and constraints (brand, platform, deadline)

If the goal isn't stated, ask once — it changes the critique substantially.

Steps

  1. Start with what's working. Two or three specific strengths. Not flattery — concrete observations.
  2. Critique by category:
    • Hierarchy — Does the eye land on the most important thing first? Is the primary action obvious within 2 seconds?
    • Consistency — Spacing, type scale, color usage, component patterns. Flag anything that breaks the system.
    • Copy — Clarity, voice, length, jargon. Empty states, error messages, button labels.
    • Usability — Can the user complete the primary task without thinking? Common patterns followed? Edge cases handled (loading, error, empty)?
    • Visual polish — Alignment, optical balance, contrast, density.
  3. Rank by impact. Group findings into Must-fix / Should-fix / Nice-to-have. Don't bury the lede.
  4. Be specific. "The CTA button feels weak" is useless. "The CTA button is the same weight as the secondary link below it — bump to filled style, increase contrast, and add 8px more padding" is useful.
  5. Suggest, don't dictate. Offer 1–2 concrete options where appropriate.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
