summarize-document

A workflow for producing a short summary of a large document through a connected document-processing service. It supports files such as PDFs, scans, office documents, HTML, text, and Markdown without loading the entire source into the agent's working context.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to summarize a report, scanned document, spreadsheet, presentation, web page, or long text file, then save the returned summary under processed/.
Why use it?
It saves context space and avoids manually reading a long file when only an overview is needed. The resulting summary is saved as a separate Markdown file for later use.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00066 $0.00439
Opus 5 $0.00033 $0.00219
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00088
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00044

Security

Grade A, and why

summarize-document scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Summarize a Document with Superlinked MCP

Use the connected Superlinked MCP server to summarize the source on the SIE cluster through the MCP summarize_document tool.

Steps

  1. Do not open, view, attach, or read the whole source document into context.

  2. Call the Superlinked MCP summarize_document tool:

    • For PDF, scan, image-of-text, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, or HTML inputs, read raw bytes only, base64-encode them, and pass document_base64 plus filename.
    • For text or markdown inputs, read raw bytes only, base64-encode them, and pass content_base64.
    • Leave engine as auto unless the user explicitly asks to force a conversion engine.
  3. Write the returned summary to processed/<source-stem>.summary.md. Create processed/ if it does not exist.

  4. Your next message must begin with a short receipt:

    Summarized <source> -> processed/<source-stem>.summary.md (<summary_chars> chars)

If metadata includes token_savings_estimate, include it as an estimate.

  5. Present the summary from the artifact. If the user asks for exact quotes or detailed follow-up, use parse-document and inspect only relevant sections of the parsed markdown.

Errors

If the MCP call fails, relay the tool error and do not retry blindly. For auth or connector errors, tell the user to reinstall the generated MCP plugin pack or rerun the generated claude mcp add ... --header 'Authorization: Bearer ...' command from INSTALL.md.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

summarize-document is a skill published in the GitHub repository superlinked/sie (2,863 stars, last pushed 4d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 66 tokens to every session and 439 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
