ab-validate

ab-validate is a skill for Claude Code from supportersimulator/3-surgeons. It costs 19 tokens per session (273 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A quick review that asks three independent reviewers whether a proposed fix or change is sound, then combines their votes into a verdict. It can return approved, rejected, or needs-review.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps validate bug fixes, refactors, and other proposed changes by showing the combined reasoning and each reviewer’s individual vote.
Why use it?
It provides a fast check for regressions and disagreements before a fix is committed, without using the longer process intended for major architecture decisions.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00019 $0.00273
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.00137
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00055
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00027

Measured 5d ago against content hash 85d6139da79e, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

ab-validate scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

A/B Validate

Quick 3-surgeon validation for proposed fixes. Faster than full cross-examination, more rigorous than a single opinion.

When to Use

  • After writing a bug fix, before committing
  • After a refactor, to sanity-check the approach
  • When you want a quick thumbs-up/thumbs-down from all three surgeons
  • For validating that a proposed change doesn't introduce regressions

When NOT to Use

  • Major architectural decisions → use cross-examination instead
  • Comparing two approaches → use ab-testing instead
  • Just need one surgeon's opinion → use direct-query instead

How It Works

  1. Describe the fix or change
  2. All three surgeons vote independently
  3. Results synthesized into a verdict

Output

  • verdict — approved, rejected, or needs-review
  • reasoning — why the verdict was reached
  • surgeon_votes — each surgeon's individual vote (disagreements visible)

MCP tool: ab_validate_tool CLI: 3s ab-validate "description of the fix"

Cost

~$0.001-0.003 per validation.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

ab-validate is a skill published in the GitHub repository supportersimulator/3-surgeons (2 stars, last pushed 3mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 19 tokens to every session and 273 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
