citation-opportunities

citation-opportunities is a skill for Claude Code from surendranb/google-search-console-mcp. It costs 22 tokens per session (197 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A search audit that finds pages appearing near the top of Google results but receiving few clicks. It focuses on cases where Google may already answer the search using information from the page.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to find high-ranking, low-click pages and suggest additions such as a tool, downloadable template or other useful resource.
Why use it?
It highlights pages that attract visibility without attracting visits, so you can decide whether to add a reason for searchers to click.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00022 $0.00197
Opus 5.5 $0.00009 $0.00079
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00039
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00020

Measured yesterday against content hash 88fabc956052, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

citation-opportunities scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Citation Opportunity Audit

When to use: Find high-value pages that are serving as "Silent References" (e.g. for AI Overviews) without earning clicks, and recommend UI changes to capture that traffic.

How to execute:

  1. Call get_search_analytics with dimensions=["query", "page"], row_limit=5000.
  2. Filter the results in-memory: Look for rows where Position <= 1.5 AND CTR < 1.0% AND Impressions > 20.
  3. Analysis: These are your "Citation Opportunities". The user's intent is being satisfied directly on Google.
  4. Recommendation: Instruct the user to add a 'Click-Trigger' to these specific pages (like a dynamic tool, template download, or gated resource) to force the click.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

citation-opportunities is a skill published in the GitHub repository surendranb/google-search-console-mcp (40 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 22 tokens to every session and 197 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings.
