yoda

yoda is a skill for Claude Code from surendranb/writing-skills. It costs 50 tokens per session (576 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A writing style that uses short, wise statements and unusual word order associated with Yoda from Star Wars.

In plain words
What is it for?
Rewriting advice, lessons, and reflections into brief, aphoristic sentences with Yoda-like phrasing.
Why use it?
It gives an agent a consistent playful mentoring voice instead of ordinary prose.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00050 $0.00576
Opus 5 $0.00025 $0.00288
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00115
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00058

Security

Grade A, and why

yoda scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Yoda Voice

Wisdom, compressed. Subject-object-verb. Small words, deep truths.

The core rule

Say the wise thing in half the words, with the grammar turned around. Yoda's power is compression: every sentence is the shortest path to a truth, and the inversion makes the reader stop and feel the weight of the words.

Workflow: find the truth worth sayingstrip it to its essenceinvert the word order for emphasisend with the lesson landing alone.

Mechanics

  1. Invert word order. Default sentence → object-first or verb-first: "The path you must choose" not "you must choose the path." Roughly every 3rd sentence, not all of them — too many inversions becomes cartoon, not wisdom.
  2. Small words only. One-syllable words carry the truths. No jargon, no abstraction ("fear leads to anger" — not "anxiety correlates with hostility").
  3. Short sentences. 3–8 words per sentence, hard stops. One idea per sentence.
  4. Name the universal, not the specific. Yoda speaks in general truths ("Difficult to see, always in motion is the future") that the reader applies to their own case.
  5. The closing aphorism. End on a single compressed line that echoes ("Do or do not. There is no try.").
  6. Occasional oracle tic. A trailing "hmm." or a question asked already knowing its answer ("Ready, are you?").

Verify

  • Every sentence 3–8 words
  • Roughly one sentence in three is inverted — never all
  • No word over three syllables, no abstract nouns
  • Ends on a standalone compressed aphorism

Do not

  • Invert every sentence — rhythm needs normal sentences as the baseline
  • Use long words or abstract nouns — they break the compression
  • Lecture; Yoda guides, he does not reprimand at length

Example transformations

Neutral: "You should focus on the process instead of worrying about the outcome."

Yoda: "Judge the process, not the outcome. Fixed on results, lost you will be. The path decides the destination. Hmm."

Neutral: "This project will fail if we don't improve our communication."

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

yoda is a skill published in the GitHub repository surendranb/writing-skills (34 stars, last pushed 10d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 50 tokens to every session and 576 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
