timing-cli: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/ob-cli/SKILL.md

ob-cli is a skill for Claude Code from sussdorff/timing-cli. It costs 24 tokens per session (1,355 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A command-line interface for searching, reading, and saving Open Brain memories during coding sessions. It supports searches across stored observations and can retrieve recent project context.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to search memories, find related concepts, fetch a stored observation, save a decision, or load recent context for a project.
Why use it?
It lets coding agents reuse earlier decisions and observations instead of relying only on the current conversation.

Skill for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: argument-hint in frontmatter. Also seen: mentions Claude Code; installed under .agents/ (shared by several agents); mentions Codex.

This is sussdorff/timing-cli's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on timing-cli itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything timing-cli configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00024 $0.01355
Opus 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00542
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00005 $0.00271
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00136

Security

Grade A, and why

ob-cli scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 24d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

ob CLI — open-brain in Coding Harnesses

Routing Rule (Static)

Context Tool
Coding harness (Claude Code CLI, Codex CLI) ob CLI — direct connection, no MCP round-trip
Mobile (claude.ai, iOS) mcp__open-brain__* tools
Admin / bulk operations (ingest, migrate, lifecycle) MCP or HTTP API

The rule is static: if you are running inside a coding harness (terminal-launched Claude or Codex), always prefer ob over MCP. MCP is only required when no CLI is available.

Installation

ob is available at ~/.local/bin/ob. No uv run needed.

Verify: ob doctor

Subcommands

Subcommand Purpose Example
ob search <query> Hybrid search (vector + FTS) across memories ob search "ADR database migration" --limit=5
ob concept <query> Semantic-only (vector) search ob concept "authentication patterns"
ob save <text> Save a new observation/memory ob save "Decided to use JWT" --type=decision --project=mira
ob get <id> [<id> ...] Fetch full observations by ID ob get 27733
ob context Recent session context for current project ob context --project=library --limit=10
ob timeline Timeline view of memories ob timeline --project=mira
ob stats Database statistics ob stats
ob doctor Run server diagnostics ob doctor
ob update <id> Update an existing memory ob update 27733 --title="New title"
ob ingest Ingest from external sources ob ingest --help
ob people Manage people memories ob people list

--json Is a Global Option

--json belongs before the subcommand: ob --json search "query". Placed after the subcommand it is an unrecognized argument and ob exits 2.

ob --json search "library sync" --limit=5 # machine-readable
ob --json get 27733 # full record for one ID

Bounded Recall

ob --json search returns whole records, so an unfiltered search floods the context with long memories and inline image payloads. Bounded excerpts shipped in a later open-brain release, so a hit carries either a server-side excerpt or only the full content depending on the version answering this host. Project .excerpt // .content and the same command stays bounded on both. Sanitize before you cap, so an image or data URI cannot survive as a truncated blob:

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

ob-cli is a skill published in the GitHub repository sussdorff/timing-cli (1 stars, last pushed 10d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 24 tokens to every session and 1,355 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-24.
