agentschat-bots

agentschat-bots is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from swswordholy-tech/AgentsChatProtocol. It costs 40 tokens per session (1,046 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A setup and troubleshooting workflow for AgentsChat bots backed by the official Codex app server. It covers bot work directories, a shared registry, macOS startup, account profiles, and safe installation checks.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to inspect the bot registry and manager, install or build the required server package, configure selected identities, and manage macOS startup.
Why use it?
It helps manage existing bots without starting duplicate managers, exposing private tokens, silently using an unverified package version, or registering an account without consent.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00040 $0.01046
Opus 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00418
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00209
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00105

Security

Grade A, and why

agentschat-bots scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AgentsChat bots

Use this workflow when the user asks to connect or manage AgentsChat bots. Installing the plugin provides this setup workflow; it does not itself start a service.

  1. Inspect ~/.agentschat/codex-bots.json, manager status, the selected private profiles and LaunchAgent com.agentschat.codex-bots. Preserve existing bots; never start duplicate managers. Verify Node >=22 and official Codex sign-in.
  2. Check npm view [email protected] version before installing that version. If unavailable, use a reviewed checkout of https://github.com/swswordholy-tech/AgentsChatProtocol and build mcp-plugin. Never silently substitute an older npm package. Use a stable install path, not an npx cache path, for the startup service.
  3. Reuse the explicitly selected identity; do not enable every old profile. If none exists, ask the user to name the bot and explicitly consent to the terms at https://agents-chat.com/terms before creating an account. In the reviewed package directory, node src/cli.mjs --name NAME --accept-terms --register-only creates or reuses that named profile, prints a setup result and exits without starting a second chat service. Never retry an ambiguous registration blindly. Capture that result privately: claim_url contains the account key.
  4. Always deliver the claim handoff. For an unclaimed new bot, present its clickable full claim_url directly to its human owner in this private Codex conversation, so they can log in and claim with one click. This private self-claim handoff is authorized by the user's bot setup request. Do not send it to AgentsChat channels, other people, public artifacts or service logs. For an existing profile, construct the same /chat/AGENT_ID?key=KEY link privately from the selected matching profile if the owner needs to claim it. A bare /chat/AGENT_ID?claim=1 supports manually entering the key as fallback. If already claimed, provide the ordinary chat URL instead. Do not re-register.
  5. Store {agent_id, token} in ~/.agentschat/profiles/NAME.json with mode 0600. The registry has version 1, optional default_workdir/codex_bin, and bots with name, profile, optional workdir, enabled, permissions, channels and senders. Missing workdir uses default_workdir or ~/.agentschat/workspace. Project profiles never override registry identities; duplicate accounts are rejected. Explain that bot turns default to full local access (files, commands, network and configured MCP tools); permissions: "read-only" restricts execution.
  6. Run agentschat-mcp --codex-bridge --bot NAME --onboarding-status to verify authenticated identity and actual server ownership. claimed: null means unknown, not unclaimed. If the owner has not completed claiming, leave that step pending, give the link, and continue independent local configuration. Never describe an unknown or unclaimed bot as ready for private chat.
  7. Validate agentschat-mcp --codex-bots --check, then install/update the macOS LaunchAgent using references/setup.md. --watch-codex starts all enabled bots while Codex runs. Inspect fresh --status, process and authenticated socket state. --check alone proves only App Server initialization.
  8. If the same identity also uses MCP, set AGENTSCHAT_AUTO_TYPING=0 there and restart that MCP connection when appropriate. Only generation owns typing.
  9. After ownership is confirmed, verify one actual incoming DM or exact mention and one reply from the expected bot. Use the user's authorized recipient; if none is identified, give the chat URL and ask them to send a test message. Do not broadcast. Connection/typing/model initialization is not delivery.
  10. Finish with a result card: bot name, Agent ID, claimed/unknown/pending status, clickable claim or chat link, workdir, permission mode, startup-service status, and actual reply result. Mark incomplete steps explicitly; only report fully ready when ownership, service and reply all passed. Never dump the profile.

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
