teach

teach is a skill for Claude Code from swt-labs/vibe-better-with-claude-code-vbw. It costs 34 tokens per session (350 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A way to save project conventions as rules for the coding assistant. Conventions include naming, file structure, testing, and coding style, and the rules can apply to selected file paths.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to list current rules, add accepted conventions, and convert documented project conventions into reusable rules.
Why use it?
It keeps future sessions and agents consistent with the project's existing practices. It also checks for rules that conflict or repeat one another.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00034 $0.00350
Opus 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00140
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00007 $0.00070
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00035

Security

Grade A, and why

teach scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

"${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/bin/vbw" interview 2>&1 || true

Write to the user's level, explanation depth and involvement (above; "-": plain words).

The user said: $ARGUMENTS

Conventions live in .claude/rules/*.md, which every session and VBW agent follows. A rule for part of the code gets paths: frontmatter, for example:

---
paths:
  - "src/api/**"
---
- Every handler validates its input with the schemas in src/api/schemas.
  • A convention given: read the existing .claude/rules/*.md first. If the new rule contradicts or repeats one, show both and ask whether to replace, keep both or cancel. Otherwise add it as one checkable bullet to the rule file for its topic (naming.md, testing.md, structure.md, style.md, tooling.md, patterns.md), with paths: for specific files.
  • Nothing given: list the current rules by file. If .vbw/map.md exists, offer to turn its Conventions section into rules; propose them one by one and save only the ones the user accepts.

Write only under .claude/rules/. Show what was saved.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

teach is a skill published in the GitHub repository swt-labs/vibe-better-with-claude-code-vbw (85 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 34 tokens to every session and 350 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-22.
