brainstorming

brainstorming is a skill for Claude Code from synaptiai/synapti-marketplace. It costs 60 tokens per session (777 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A structured way to compare several possible approaches before choosing how to implement a change.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when requirements are unclear, several designs could work, or the problem is unfamiliar.
Why use it?
It makes trade-offs in simplicity, flexibility, performance, effort, and risk visible before work begins.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00060 $0.00777
Opus 5 $0.00030 $0.00388
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00155
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00078

Security

Grade A, and why

brainstorming scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Brainstorming

Contract

Iron law: explore before committing — choosing wrong costs ten times what exploring costs. Invoked by /flow:brainstorm Phase 2 (GENERATE), Phase 3 (COMPARE), and Phase 4 (DECIDE), and whenever several valid approaches exist, requirements are ambiguous, or the team defaults to its first idea. Returns 2–4 genuinely distinct, implementable approaches (name, summary, pros, cons, effort, risk), a comparison table across the dimensions that matter for this decision, a recommendation with its key trade-off, and the user's choice via AskUserQuestion, logged to the decision journal. Permitted skips: none — the recommendation is never the decision; the user chooses.

Process

Track five tasks — clarify goal, check existing patterns, generate approaches, compare and recommend, user decision — and confirm with TaskList at the end.

1. Clarify the goal

Confirm what must happen (outcome, not implementation), why (motivation, constraints), and who is affected. Ambiguous → AskUserQuestion; do not guess.

2. Check existing patterns

grep -r "relevant_pattern" --include="*.{ts,js,py,rb}" -l
git log --oneline --all --grep="related keyword" | head -10

Existing patterns get priority; consistency has value.

3. Generate 2–4 approaches

Per approach: Name, Summary (one line), Pros, Cons, Effort (Small/Medium/Large), Risk (Low/Medium/High).

Rules:

  • Minimum 2, maximum 4. More than 4 is analysis paralysis — cap and decide with available information.
  • Genuinely distinct, not minor variations; "we can only do A or B" usually hides a C.
  • Include the "do nothing" or "simplest possible" option when applicable.
  • Each must be implementable — no hand-waving.
  • Present all options before discussing any, so the first does not anchor.

4. Compare

Dimension Approach A Approach B Approach C
Simplicity
Flexibility
Performance
Consistency
Effort
Risk

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

brainstorming is a skill published in the GitHub repository synaptiai/synapti-marketplace (6 stars, last pushed today), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 60 tokens to every session and 777 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
