aws-transform-modernization

aws-transform-modernization is a skill for Claude Code from takara-ai/miru-code. It costs 60 tokens per session (717 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A code-exploration skill for assessing unfamiliar or legacy systems before migration. It uses Miru Code Search to map dependencies, trace callers, find related implementations, and identify risky or complex modules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to assess a module, find all callers of a routine or interface, discover related code, understand old code before porting it, and distinguish semantic searches from exact text lookups.
Why use it?
Legacy code often has undocumented relationships that broad file searches do not reveal. This workflow helps build an evidence-based picture before changing or modernising the system.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00060 $0.00717
Opus 5.5 $0.00024 $0.00287
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00143
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00072

Security

Grade A, and why

aws-transform-modernization scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Miru for modernization assessment

Use Miru MCP as the default code-exploration path when assessing a legacy or unfamiliar codebase for migration/modernization.

Miru supports a self-hosted SageMaker embedding backend instead of Takara-hosted — see docs/self-hosted-sagemaker.md and run miru setup --sagemaker to opt in. An endpoint and AWS identity are customer-specific, so this is not configured automatically.

When to use it

Use Miru when the task looks like:

  • map dependencies for this module
  • identify high-risk or high-complexity modules
  • find all callers of this routine, and from where
  • find everything related to this legacy interface, copybook, or subroutine
  • what does this routine actually do, before porting it

For exact literal lookups, use locate instead of search:

  • env var names
  • exact error codes
  • quoted string matches

Workflow

  1. Call search once with repo set to the project root.
  2. If a result has truncated: true, read the lines in its header (path:start-end Symbol) with a ranged read; use expand with file_path and anchor_line for neighbouring chunks.
  3. Use find_related to find similar code patterns in other files (e.g. other copies of a legacy routine, parallel implementations). For callers and dependents, use search with the routine/interface name.
  4. For exact literal lookups (env var names, error codes, quoted strings), use locate with mode=count or locations rather than search.
  5. Read files directly only after Miru has already identified the relevant path.

Tool preference

  • Prefer Miru search over grep/glob/bash exploration when mapping what a legacy module does.
  • Prefer a ranged read of the hit's start-end lines (or Miru expand) over rereading whole files when a hit is truncated.
  • Prefer Miru find_related over repeated search paraphrases when looking for similar code (other copies, parallel implementations) — cryptic legacy naming conventions make keyword search unreliable for this.
  • Prefer Miru locate over grep for exact substrings — env vars, symbols, error codes — cryptic legacy naming makes keyword search unreliable here too, and locate is built for exact matches, not search.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

aws-transform-modernization is a skill published in the GitHub repository takara-ai/miru-code (12 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 60 tokens to every session and 717 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-16.
