kmp-repositories

kmp-repositories is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from TalissonVitorino/kmp-ios-skills. It costs 25 tokens per session (3,216 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A repository pattern for Kotlin Multiplatform that gives shared code one interface for loading and saving data while hiding platform-specific sources such as networks, databases, and caches.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to design shared data access for Android and iOS applications, including one-time requests and continuously observed data.
Why use it?
It keeps the rest of the app independent from where data comes from and provides one place for caching, error handling, and refresh rules.

Getting it into your agent

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00025 $0.03216
Opus 5 $0.00013 $0.01608
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00643
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00322

Security

Grade A, and why

kmp-repositories scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

KMP Repository Pattern

Implement the repository pattern with shared interfaces in commonMain and platform-specific implementations.

Architecture Overview

     ↓
Domain         use cases

Data           Repository interface        (commonMain)
               Repository implementation   (commonMain: coordinates sources,
                                            caching strategy, error mapping)
               Data sources Remote (network) · Local (database)
                                           · Memory (cache)

Repository Interface

// commonMain/kotlin/data/repository/UserRepository.kt
interface UserRepository {
    // Single shot
    suspend fun getUser(id: String): Result<User>
    suspend fun getUsers(page: Int): Result<PaginatedResponse<User>>
    suspend fun saveUser(user: User): Result<User>
    suspend fun deleteUser(id: String): Result<Unit>

    // Streams
    fun observeUser(id: String): Flow<Result<User>>
    fun observeUsers(): Flow<Result<List<User>>>

    // Cache control
    suspend fun refreshUser(id: String): Result<User>
    suspend fun refreshAll(): Result<Unit>
    suspend fun clearCache(): Result<Unit>
}

kotlin.Result is an inline value class, and the Kotlin/Native Objective-C export maps inline classes to their underlying type or id — Swift cannot unwrap one. Keep Result inside shared code and convert at the iOS boundary (sealed wrapper, or a shared ViewModel exposing state): see error-handling-result and kmp-ios-integration.

Base Repository

// commonMain/kotlin/data/repository/BaseRepository.kt
abstract class BaseRepository {
    // Execute with error handling.
    // NetworkException/DataException are app-defined error types.
    protected suspend fun <T> execute(
        block: suspend () -> T
    ): Result<T> = try {
        Result.success(block())

        throw e
    } catch (e: NetworkException) {
        Result.failure(e)
    } catch (e: Exception) {
        Result.failure(DataException(cause = e))
    }

    // Wrap a Flow's emissions in Result. Use the .catch operator — a
    // try/catch around collect inside a flow {} builder violates flow
    // exception transparency and can throw IllegalStateException at runtime.
    protected fun <T> flowResult(
        block: () -> Flow<T>
    ): Flow<Result<T>> = block()
        .map { Result.success(it) }
        .catch { e -> emit(Result.failure(e)) }

    // Cache-first strategy: return cache hit, otherwise fetch and persist
    protected suspend fun <T> cacheFirst(
        cacheBlock: suspend () -> T?,
        networkBlock: suspend () -> T,
        saveBlock: suspend (T) -> Unit
    ): Result<T> = execute {
        cacheBlock() ?: networkBlock().also { saveBlock(it) }
    }

    // Network-first strategy: fall back to cache only on network errors
    protected suspend fun <T> networkFirst(

        networkBlock: suspend () -> T
    ): Result<T> = execute {

        } catch (e: NetworkException) {
            cacheBlock() ?: throw e

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

kmp-repositories is a skill published in the GitHub repository TalissonVitorino/kmp-ios-skills (12 stars, last pushed 18d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 25 tokens to every session and 3,216 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
