m3-expressive

m3-expressive is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from TalissonVitorino/kmp-ios-skills. It costs 41 tokens per session (15,471 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to Material 3 Expressive, an Android Compose design system extension with more animated motion, changing shapes, emphasized typography, color emphasis, and additional interface components.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when building expressive Jetpack Compose interfaces, choosing compatible Material 3 dependencies, or implementing expressive themes, motion, shapes, app bars, navigation, buttons, menus, and indicators.
Why use it?
It helps developers account for which expressive APIs are available in each Material 3 version. This avoids using APIs that are still internal or require an alpha release.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00041 $0.15471
Opus 5 $0.00020 $0.07736
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.03094
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.01547

Security

Grade A, and why

m3-expressive scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Material 3 Expressive for Jetpack Compose

Material 3 Expressive extends Material 3 with spring-based motion, morphable shapes, emphasized type styles, a recoloured baseline palette, and a set of new components. This skill covers the Compose implementation in androidx.compose.material3.

Version gate — verified against material3 1.4.0 and 1.5.0-alpha26 (Aug 2026).

  • 1.4.0 (stable, Compose BOM 2026.08.00) exposes almost none of this. MaterialExpressiveTheme, expressiveLightColorScheme(), MotionScheme / MotionScheme.expressive() / MaterialTheme.motionScheme, every *Emphasized type style, Shapes.largeIncreased / extraLargeIncreased / extraExtraLarge, MediumFlexibleTopAppBar / LargeFlexibleTopAppBar / TwoRowsTopAppBar / FlexibleBottomAppBar and VerticalSlider are all declared internal in 1.4.0. Only WideNavigationRail and ShortNavigationBar are public there.
  • Everything else in this skill needs 1.5.0-alpha* — toggle buttons, ButtonGroup, SplitButtonLayout, the FAB menu and sized FABs, floating toolbars, wavy progress indicators, loading indicators, menu groups, the expanded search bars, MaterialShapes. In practice: use the alpha BOM or none of this resolves.
  • Opt-in: ExperimentalMaterial3ExpressiveApi is itself internal in 1.4.0, so the @OptIn cannot even be written there. From 1.5.0-alpha23 most expressive APIs graduated to stable; on 1.5.0-alpha26 only LoadingIndicator / ContainedLoadingIndicator and MaterialShapes / Morph.toPath / RoundedPolygon.toShape still require it. AppBarWithSearch and the deprecated TopSearchBar need @OptIn(ExperimentalMaterial3Api::class) instead — a different annotation. A redundant opt-in is harmless (an "unnecessary @OptIn" warning).

Examples below are written for 1.5.0-alpha26 and keep the opt-in annotation. For general Compose state/recomposition work prefer android-skills:compose; for non-expressive theming see compose-theming-styles.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
