matimo: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/add-tool/SKILL.md

add-tool is a skill for Claude Code from tallclub/matimo. It costs 0 tokens per session (2,257 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow for adding a tool to an existing Matimo provider package. It uses the service's official API documentation to define the tool, implement its TypeScript and Python parts when needed, and add validation, tests, and examples.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to wrap a new endpoint in an existing provider, from API research and YAML definition through implementation, testing, linting, and examples.
Why use it?
It helps avoid guessing API parameters, responses, authentication, or error behavior. It also keeps the two SDK implementations and their supporting documentation aligned.

Skill for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: $ARGUMENTS substitution.

This is tallclub/matimo's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on matimo itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything matimo configures →

Needs its repository: it reads a path above its own folder, which exists only inside the repository. The line is import type { ToolParams } from '../../../core/src/core/models';.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.02257
Opus 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00903
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00451
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00226

Security

Grade A, and why

add-tool scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Add a new Matimo tool: $ARGUMENTS

If no name given, ask: which provider package, what is the tool name, and which API endpoint it wraps.

Step 1 — Read official API docs

Fetch the real documentation (WebSearch / WebFetch). Do not guess parameter schemas or response shapes. Understand:

  • Endpoint URL and HTTP method
  • Required vs optional parameters (types, enums, constraints)
  • Authentication method and required env vars / OAuth scopes
  • Response schema (fields, types)
  • Error codes and rate limits

Step 2 — Create the YAML definition

Path: packages/<provider>/tools/<tool-name>/definition.yaml

Execution type rules:

  • type: http — Use for any standard REST call. The HTTP executor injects auth, builds headers/body/query automatically. This is almost always the right choice.
  • type: function — Only when you need multi-step calls, response transformation, or file I/O. Requires co-located .ts and .py executor files.
  • type: command — Shell CLI tools only. Requires allowCommandTools: true in policy (blocked by default).

Auth type mapping:

Provider auth style authentication.type Header value example
Bot token (Slack, Notion) api_key Bearer {SLACK_BOT_TOKEN}
PAT / API key in header bearer token {GITHUB_TOKEN}
HTTP Basic basic use username_env + password_env
OAuth2 access token oauth2 Bearer {PROVIDER_ACCESS_TOKEN}

Run pnpm validate-tools immediately. Fix every error before the next step.

Step 3 — Executor files (only for type: function)

Both files live in the same directory as definition.yaml.

TypeScript — packages/<provider>/tools/<tool-name>/<tool-name>.ts:

import type { ToolParams } from '../../../core/src/core/models';

export async function execute(params: ToolParams): Promise<Record<string, unknown>> {
  const { param1, param2 } = params as { param1: string; param2?: string };
  // implementation
  return { success: true };
}

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

add-tool is a skill published in the GitHub repository tallclub/matimo (18 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 2,257 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-05.
