jobs

jobs is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from tallesborges/zdx. It costs 81 tokens per session (2,312 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A tool for creating and maintaining scheduled agent jobs stored as Markdown files. A job can run once or repeatedly, such as on a calendar schedule, without a person being present during each run.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create reminders, recurring reports, one-time tasks, and other scheduled agent runs, then edit or validate their job files.
Why use it?
It removes the need to manually repeat routine prompts and helps keep scheduled instructions in a format the job runner can read safely. Jobs can produce an observable result such as a report, message, file, or pull request.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00081 $0.02312
Opus 5.5 $0.00032 $0.00925
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00462
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00231

Security

Grade A, and why

jobs scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 13d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Jobs Skill

Create and maintain ZDX job files.

What is a job?

A job is a headless agent run with no human in the loop. It always produces a visible effect (a report, a message, a file, a PR) and handles errors on its own: retry, degrade gracefully, or report what failed. Every job is one markdown file with YAML frontmatter and a prompt body. It runs by hand, on a recurring cron schedule, or once at a set time.

Contract (must follow)

  • Keep jobs global-only in $ZDX_HOME/jobs/ (usually $HOME/.zdx/jobs/). jobs/archive/ holds finished once jobs; do not edit or add files there.
  • One file is one job. Its name is the file stem (no id field): ~/.zdx/jobs/morning-report.md → morning-report.
  • Markdown with YAML frontmatter delimited by ---, then a non-empty prompt body.
  • Write a new or changed file to a temp file in the same directory, then rename it into place. The daemon reads jobs/ on every tick, so a half-written file would be read as invalid.
  • Edits apply on the next tick. No restart is needed.

Allowed frontmatter keys

  • schedule (string): 5-field cron (minute hour day-of-month month day-of-week) in the daemon's local time. Makes the job recurring.
  • run_at (string): one instant in RFC 3339 with an explicit offset, for example "2026-10-20T09:00:00-03:00" or "2026-10-20T12:00:00Z". Makes the job a once job. A value without an offset is rejected.
  • grace_secs (int, 60 to 604800): how late a run may still start. Defaults: once 6 h, recurring 10 min. Not allowed on a manual job.
  • model (string): provider[@account]:model[@thinking][@fast].
  • subagent (string): run with a named subagent profile.
  • root (string): absolute path or ~/... to run in another workspace.
  • timeout_secs (int, > 0): hard limit for each tool call.
  • max_retries (int, default 0): extra attempts after a failure, 1 min, 2 min, … apart.

Set schedule or run_at, never both. Neither means manual only. Do not add other keys; unknown keys make the file invalid.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

jobs is a skill published in the GitHub repository tallesborges/zdx (20 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 81 tokens to every session and 2,312 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-15.
