Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00130 | $0.01582 |
| Opus 5.5 | $0.00052 | $0.00633 |
| Sonnet 5.5 | $0.00026 | $0.00316 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00013 | $0.00158 |
Grade A, and why
maven-indexer scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 111 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
maven-indexer
maven-indexer-cli indexes the JARs already downloaded to the local Maven repository
(~/.m2/repository) and Gradle cache (~/.gradle/caches/modules-2/files-2.1) into a SQLite
database and answers questions about them. It sees exactly the versions this machine has,
including private artifacts that are not on the public internet.
Before the first query
- Check the CLI is available:
maven-indexer-cli --version. If it is missing, install it withnpm install -g maven-indexer-cli(Node.js 18+), or prefix every command withnpx -y maven-indexer-cli. - Check the index:
maven-indexer-cli stats. IfArtifact Countis0orLast Indexed At: never, build it once withmaven-indexer-cli refresh-index(can take a few minutes on a large repository; run it in the background if your tools allow). - Before later queries, run
maven-indexer-cli sync --quietto pick up JARs downloaded since the last run. It is sub-second when nothing changed.
If a class you expect is missing, the dependency may not be downloaded yet: run the project's build
(mvn dependency:resolve, ./gradlew dependencies, or a normal compile), then sync again.
Always pass --for-llm
Put --for-llm (and optionally --max-lines <n>) before the subcommand. It trims decorative
output and caps the line count so results fit in context:
maven-indexer-cli --for-llm explore com.example.client.OrderClient
Use --json instead when you need to parse the output in a script.
Start with explore
explore answers most questions in one call: it resolves each identifier and returns the class
signatures, implementations, callers and callees together.
# One or more identifiers: simple or fully-qualified class names, Class.method, g:a[:v] coordinates
maven-indexer-cli --for-llm explore OrderClient
maven-indexer-cli --for-llm explore com.example.client.OrderClient.submit
# Choose sections explicitly
maven-indexer-cli --for-llm explore com.example.client.OrderClient --include source
maven-indexer-cli --for-llm explore com.example.spi.Codec --include implementations
maven-indexer-cli --for-llm explore com.example:order-client --include dependencies,dependents
# Pin a version, or resolve versions against a specific project's dependency tree
maven-indexer-cli --for-llm explore OrderClient --coordinate com.example:order-client:2.3.1
maven-indexer-cli --for-llm explore OrderClient --project-path /abs/path/to/project
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

maven-indexer is a skill published in the GitHub repository tangcent/maven-indexer-mcp (23 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed ISC. It adds 130 tokens to every session and 1,582 once invoked, about $0.0005 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-25.
