A debugging method focused on finding the underlying cause of a problem rather than only treating its visible symptom. It uses ranked explanations and tests designed to disprove them.

Use it to connect symptoms to possible causes, rank and falsify hypotheses, identify the root cause, apply a fix, plan prevention, and label confidence from certain to unknown.

It makes debugging more deliberate and reduces time spent chasing guesses. It also records how certain the investigation is before choosing a fix and prevention step.
