Hard Gate
Before completing the Reuse Report, you MAY inspect/search/read files, docs, manifests, Skills, GitHub, package registries, official docs, and temporary clones.
Before completing it, you MUST NOT:
- scaffold a new subsystem
- write production implementation code
- add dependencies
- mutate application configuration
- copy third-party source into the project
- start a large refactor based on unverified assumptions
Research-only tasks stop after the decision; implementation continues only after the gate passes.
Trigger
Mandatory for new apps/services, meaningful features, integrations, architecture choices, framework/library/database/search/auth/AI/agent/CMS/UI/infrastructure decisions, or anything likely to have mature prior art.
Usually skip typo/copy edits, tiny CSS changes, mechanical refactors, and isolated bug fixes where external reuse cannot materially change the solution.
When uncertain, run a lightweight pass.
1. Establish Constraints
Infer from the request and repository before asking questions. Capture only decision-changing constraints:
- outcome and current stack
- runtime/deployment target
- must-keep systems
- license/commercial-use rules
- security/privacy needs
- performance/scale
- dependency/complexity tolerance
2. Internal Reuse First
Search the current codebase before public sources:
- modules/components/services
- manifests and lockfiles
- utilities/abstractions
- docs/architecture notes
- existing implementations of the same pattern
