testdino-mcp: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/add-tool/SKILL.md

add-tool is a skill for Claude Code from testdino-hq/testdino-mcp. It costs 22 tokens per session (1,033 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guided workflow for adding a new MCP tool—an action that lets an AI assistant call an external service—to a TypeScript project.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to plan and build the endpoint, handler, tool registration, exports, and documentation for a new API-backed tool.
Why use it?
It makes the developer clarify the API, inputs, response, and affected files before implementation, reducing incomplete registration or documentation.

Skill for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: argument-hint in frontmatter.

This is testdino-hq/testdino-mcp's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on testdino-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything testdino-mcp configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00022 $0.01033
Opus 5 $0.00011 $0.00517
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00207
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00103

Measured 10d ago against content hash 6fd7dd13f8b2, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-10, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

add-tool scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 145 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Add a new MCP tool: $ARGUMENTS

Do NOT start coding immediately. Follow this workflow.

Phase 1 — Understand

  1. What does this tool do? Restate in one sentence
  2. Which API endpoint does it call? (GET/POST/PATCH/DELETE + path)
  3. What category does it belong to? (testruns, testcases, manual-testcases, manual-testsuites, or new category)
  4. What params does it need? (required vs optional)
  5. What does the API response look like?

If any of these are unclear, ask before proceeding.

Phase 2 — Plan

List every file that needs to be created or modified:

  1. src/lib/endpoints.ts — new endpoint URL builder
  2. src/tools/<category>/<tool-name>.ts — new tool file
  3. src/tools/index.ts — barrel export
  4. src/index.ts — tool registration + routing
  5. docs/TOOLS.md — tool documentation
  6. docs/skill.md — if it affects AI agent workflows

Get user approval before writing code.

Phase 3 — Implement

Follow this exact order:

Step 1: Endpoint (src/lib/endpoints.ts)

Add a new method to the endpoints object. Follow the existing pattern:

toolName: (params: { projectId: string /* other params */ }): string => {
  const baseUrl = getBaseUrl();
  const { projectId, ...queryParams } = params;
  const queryString = buildQueryString(queryParams);
  return `${baseUrl}/api/mcp/${projectId}/endpoint-path${queryString}`;
};

Run: npm run typecheck

Step 2: Tool file (src/tools//.ts)

Create the tool file with exactly two exports:

export const toolNameTool = {
  name: "tool_name",
  description: "...", // Write for AI agents — be specific about when to use this
  inputSchema: {
    type: "object",
    properties: { /* every property MUST have a description */ },
    required: [/* required params */]
  }
};

export async function handleToolName(args: Record<string, unknown>) {
  // 1. Auth
  const token = getApiKey(args);
  if (!token) throw new Error("Missing TESTDINO_PAT...");

  // 2. Validate required params
  if (!args?.projectId) throw new Error("projectId is required");

  // 3. Build URL
  const url = endpoints.toolName({ projectId: String(args.projectId), ... });

  // 4. Fetch
  const response = await apiRequestJson(url, {
    headers: { Authorization: `Bearer ${token}` }
  });

  // 5. Return formatted
  return {
    content: [{ type: "text", text: JSON.stringify(response, null, 2) }]
  };
}

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

add-tool is a skill published in the GitHub repository testdino-hq/testdino-mcp (9 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 22 tokens to every session and 1,033 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
