browser-tools

A guide for using browser tools with a real Chrome session. It covers starting the browser, choosing profiles and executables, opening pages, running JavaScript, and taking screenshots.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for frontend testing, DOM inspection, JavaScript-heavy pages, login-dependent sites, navigation, and screenshot-based verification.
Why use it?
It helps inspect or test pages that need JavaScript, a login, or visual checking beyond static source files.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00026 $0.01166
Opus 5 $0.00013 $0.00583
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00233
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00117

Measured 2d ago against content hash 7807f6364ce8, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

browser-tools scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 155 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Browser Tools

Use the browser tools when a task needs a real Chrome session: frontend testing, JavaScript-heavy pages, login-dependent pages, DOM inspection, or visual verification.

Available Commands

    • nav <url> – URL aufrufen
    • eval <code> – JavaScript ausführen
    • screenshot – Screenshot aufnehmen

Die alten Einzelbefehle stehen weiterhin als direkte Aliase zur Verfügung:

  • /browser-start – entspricht /browser start
  • /browser-profile – entspricht /browser profile
  • /browser-executable – entspricht /browser executable
  • /browser-nav – entspricht /browser nav
  • /browser-eval – entspricht /browser eval
  • /browser-screenshot – entspricht /browser screenshot

Available Tools

  • browser_start({ profile?: boolean | string }) - start Chrome with remote debugging.
  • browser_nav({ url: string, newTab?: boolean }) - navigate the active tab.
  • browser_eval({ code: string }) - evaluate JavaScript in the active tab.
  • browser_screenshot({}) - capture the current viewport and return an image path.

Session Startup

If no browser session is running, start one first:

browser_start({})

Use profile mode only when the user needs existing cookies, logins, or browser state:

browser_start({ profile: true })

Use a named Chrome profile when the user asks for a specific profile:

browser_start({ profile: "Profile 2" })

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

browser-tools is a skill published in the GitHub repository testzugang/pi-plugins (2 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 26 tokens to every session and 1,166 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
