spec

spec is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from thanh-abaii/gstack-windows-port. It costs 19 tokens per session (26,832 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of document-generate, MIT.

A workflow for turning a vague request into a precise, executable specification in five phases. It can also file the result as a GitHub issue or backlog item.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when you need to write up a ticket, create a GitHub issue, or turn an idea into a defined piece of work.
Why use it?
It removes the guesswork from describing work so the request is clear enough to act on and track.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00019 $0.26832
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.13416
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.05366
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.02683

Measured 5d ago against content hash ad7bb2fbcf4b, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

spec scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 2,160 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

When to invoke this skill

Files the issue, optionally spawns a Claude Code agent in a fresh worktree, and lets /ship close the source issue on merge. Use when asked to "spec this out", "file an issue", "write up a ticket", "make this a GitHub issue", or "turn this into a backlog item".

Preamble (run first)

python "bin/gstack-boot.py" --skill spec | iex

Plan Mode Safe Operations

In plan mode, allowed because they inform the plan: $B, $D, codex exec/codex review, writes to ~/.gstack/, writes to the plan file, and open for generated artifacts.

Skill InvoGet-Contention During Plan Mode

If the user invokes a skill in plan mode, the skill takes precedence over generic plan mode behavior. Treat the skill file as executable instructions, not reference. Follow it step by step starting from Step 0; the first AskUserQuestion is the workflow entering plan mode, not a violation of it. AskUserQuestion (any variant — mcp__*__AskUserQuestion or native; see "AskUserQuestion Format → Tool resolution") satisfies plan mode's end-of-turn requirement. If no variant is callable, the skill is BLOCKED — stop and report BLOCKED — AskUserQuestion unavailable per the AskUserQuestion Format rule. At a STOP point, stop immediately. Do not continue the workflow or call ExitPlanMode there. Commands marked "PLAN MODE EXCEPTION — ALWAYS RUN" execute. Call ExitPlanMode only after the skill workflow completes, or if the user tells you to cancel the skill or leave plan mode.

If PROACTIVE is "false", do not auto-invoke or proactively suggest skills. If a skill seems useful, ask: "I think /skillname might help here — want me to run it?"

If SKILL_PREFIX is "true", suggest/invoke /gstack-* names. Disk paths stay ~/.claude/skills/gstack/[skill-name]/SKILL.md.

If output shows UPGRADE_AVAILABLE <old> <new>: read ~/.claude/skills/gstack/gstack-upgrade/SKILL.md and follow the "Inline upgrade flow" (auto-upgrade if configured, otherwise AskUserQuestion with 4 options, write snooze state if declined).

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
