songsee

songsee is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from the-open-agent/openagent. It costs 20 tokens per session (369 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A command-line tool that turns audio into visual charts, including spectrograms showing how frequencies change over time. It can also create panels for features such as pitch, loudness, rhythm, and timbre.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to visualize whole tracks or time slices from MP3 and WAV files, choose chart types and color styles, adjust frequency and image settings, or read audio from standard input.
Why use it?
It makes patterns in sound easier to inspect and compare than by listening alone.

About the project

OpenAgent is a self-hostable personal AI assistant that combines language models, document-based retrieval, and autonomous agent loops. It lets people connect model providers and their own knowledge bases, then have agents browse the web, run code, use computers, and call MCP-compatible tools.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00020 $0.00369
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.00185
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00074
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00037

Security

Grade A, and why

songsee scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

songsee

Generate spectrograms + feature panels from audio.

Quick start

  • Spectrogram: songsee track.mp3
  • Multi-panel: songsee track.mp3 --viz spectrogram,mel,chroma,hpss,selfsim,loudness,tempogram,mfcc,flux
  • Time slice: songsee track.mp3 --start 12.5 --duration 8 -o slice.jpg
  • Stdin: cat track.mp3 | songsee - --format png -o out.png

Common flags

  • --viz list (repeatable or comma-separated)
  • --style palette (classic, magma, inferno, viridis, gray)
  • --width / --height output size
  • --window / --hop FFT settings
  • --min-freq / --max-freq frequency range
  • --start / --duration time slice
  • --format jpg|png

Notes

  • WAV/MP3 decode native; other formats use ffmpeg if available.
  • Multiple --viz renders a grid.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
