skill-structure-advisor

skill-structure-advisor is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from thesongzhu/Friday. It costs 0 tokens per session (328 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A design adviser for creating new coding-agent skills, which are reusable instructions for handling specific tasks.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to define a skill's job, decide whether it needs questions or approval steps, choose a pattern, and draft its files.
Why use it?
It helps choose a suitable interaction pattern and file structure before the skill is written.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00328
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00164
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00066
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00033

Measured 10d ago against content hash 1bc1c3fc1b3e, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-09, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

skill-structure-advisor scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Skill Structure Advisor

Helps you choose the right design pattern and structure for a new skill.

Design patterns: Inversion + Reviewer

Interview Protocol (Inversion)

Phase 1 — What does the skill do?

Ask the user:

  1. What is the skill's primary job? (e.g., "review code", "generate a report", "wrap a library")
  2. Does it produce structured output, or evaluate/score something?

Phase 2 — How does it interact?

Ask the user: 3. Does the skill need to gather information from the user before acting? 4. Is there a multi-step process with approval gates, or is it a single action?

Phase 3 — What resources does it need?

Ask the user: 5. Does it reference external docs, checklists, or templates?

Gate

DO NOT recommend a pattern until all three phases are complete.

Pattern Selection (Reviewer)

Once all phases are answered, evaluate against the decision tree in references/pattern-decision-tree.md.

Output

Produce:

  1. Recommended pattern(s) — one or two from: tool-wrapper, generator, reviewer, inversion, pipeline.
  2. Suggested directory structure — which files go in SKILL.md, references/, assets/, scripts/.
  3. SKILL.md skeleton — a starter template following the recommended pattern.
  4. Rationale — why this pattern fits and what alternatives were considered.

Typical triggers:

  • help me structure a new skill
  • which design pattern should I use
  • skill architecture advice
Files

What ships with it

1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
