glyphs

glyphs is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from thierryc/Glyphs-mcp. It costs 46 tokens per session (614 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A general entry point for using Glyphs MCP with an open font in Glyphs, the application used to design fonts.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for checking the Glyphs connection and open document, then routing work such as features, kerning, spacing, outlines, metadata, scripting, and other font-editing tasks to the appropriate skill.
Why use it?
It helps an agent choose a focused workflow, inspect the current font context, review proposed changes, and avoid saving the font automatically.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00046 $0.00614
Opus 5 $0.00023 $0.00307
Sonnet 5 $0.00009 $0.00123
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00061

Security

Grade A, and why

glyphs scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Glyphs MCP

Use this skill as the general launcher for Glyphs MCP tasks.

Core rules

  • Read the current server, font, master, glyph, layer, and selection context needed for the request before acting.
  • Prefer the narrowest dedicated MCP tool and focused workflow that fits the task.
  • Before mutation, review or dry-run when supported, explain the exact proposed change, and require explicit approval for confirm-gated actions.
  • Re-read affected state after mutation and report changed, skipped, and unresolved items.
  • Never auto-save the font.

Route focused work

  • OpenType features and stylistic sets: follow glyphs-mcp-features.
  • Live Python runs, Macro Panel snippets, and iterative script debugging: follow glyphs-mcp-scripting.
  • Reusable Python scripts and plug-in development: follow glyphs-mcp-development.
  • Icon-font Unicode or PUA assignments: follow glyphs-mcp-icon-font.
  • Kerning collision review and bumper changes: follow glyphs-mcp-kerning.
  • LitSquare metadata, inherited settings, or semantic path roles: follow glyphs-mcp-litsquare-metadata.
  • Spacing, sidebearings, and width review: follow glyphs-mcp-spacing.
  • Outlines, components, anchors, selected nodes, or bundled docs: follow glyphs-mcp-outlines-docs.
  • Roman-to-italic or oblique first passes: follow glyphs-mcp-italic-first-pass.
  • Generic Python with no Glyphs app or font target does not use a Glyphs skill.
  • For other tasks, use the smallest relevant Glyphs MCP tool set and keep the same review-first safety rules.

Connection and context workflow

  1. If connection or font context is unknown, call get_server_info, then list_open_fonts.
  2. If no server is available, ask the user to start Glyphs and confirm the server is running from Edit -> Glyphs MCP Server Status.... Use the local endpoint http://127.0.0.1:9680/mcp/.
  3. Resolve the target font and current master or selection before continuing.
  4. Follow the matching focused workflow, or complete an unmatched task with dedicated tools.
  5. Summarize the result and any manual review still needed.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
