glyphs-mcp-spacing

glyphs-mcp-spacing is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from thierryc/Glyphs-mcp. It costs 61 tokens per session (767 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A workflow for reviewing and changing letter spacing in Glyphs, a font-design application. It compares glyph measurements using related reference letters, checks unusual bearings and widths, and supports visual review before changes.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to audit sidebearings, advance widths, reference-font comparisons, and approved spacing changes in font files.
Why use it?
It helps detect spacing proposals that look wrong without treating every negative sidebearing as an error.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00061 $0.00767
Opus 5 $0.00030 $0.00383
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00153
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00077

Security

Grade A, and why

glyphs-mcp-spacing scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Glyphs MCP spacing

Use class-aware review, normalized safeguards, and visual proofing. Negative sidebearings are legal; suspect them only when magnitude, class, geometry, or their effect across word spaces is implausible. Read Negative sidebearings and spacing safeguards when a result is negative, blocked, exempted, or manually overridden.

Safe workflow

  1. Connect to glyphs-mcp-server and call list_open_fonts.
  2. Identify the exact font index and master ID before calculating anything.
  3. Inspect UPM, x-height, cap height, italic angle, fixed-pitch status, current width and bearings, metrics keys, automatic alignment, whether current metrics are trusted or placeholders, and glyph category/Unicode data.
  4. Call review_spacing before mutation. Prefer omitted/"auto" referenceGlyph, then verify every resolvedReferenceGlyph, referenceFallback, and glyphClass.
  5. Inspect normalized metrics, negative-bearing warnings/blocks, width assessment, tabular provenance, confidence, and current-metric trust. Do not use a delta from untrusted placeholder metrics as proof that a proposal is wrong.
  6. Review representative glyphs before approving a set:
    • Uppercase: H O J T V W Y
    • Lowercase: n o f j
    • Figures: one seven and all default figures
    • Narrow punctuation, quotation marks, and any marks in scope
  7. Preserve width only when fixed-pitch metadata, equal default figures, width links, or explicit intent supports it. Do not infer monospacing from a family name or typewriter styling.
  8. Call apply_spacing with dry_run=true using the exact defaults, rules, guards, clamps, and intended overrides. Confirm its guard assessments match review.
  9. Require explicit authorization unless the user already clearly requested mutation. Apply only eligible results. Disclose overrides.blockedGlyphs and overrides.manualReviewGlyphs separately; an override does not make the original assessment safe.
  10. Re-read applied metrics and print a verification table. Never save the Glyphs document automatically.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
