Why use it?
It removes the repetitive setup work of creating a draft, choosing its format, and giving it a consistent filename.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.01275
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00638
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00255
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00128

Measured 9d ago against content hash b70318cce26d, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

new-writing scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 221 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

/new-writing Skill

Start a new writing piece from an idea or topic.

Usage

/new-writing The AI Native Company
/new-writing Why founders resist clarity - newsletter
/new-writing 10x engineer setup guide - blog

Syntax

/new-writing <topic> [- target]

Parameters:

  • topic: The working title or idea for the piece
  • target (optional): Platform target (newsletter, blog, substack, x thread). Defaults to draft.

Flow

Phase 1: Parse Input

Extract from user input:

  • Topic/Title: The working title for the piece
  • Target: Platform if specified (newsletter, blog, substack, x thread)

Parsing logic:

  • If ends with - newsletter → target: Newsletter
  • If ends with - blog → target: Blog
  • If ends with - substack → target: Substack
  • If ends with - x thread or - twitter → target: X thread
  • Otherwise → target: draft (generic)

Phase 2: Check Prerequisites

  1. Read vault path from config/vault.json
  2. Check if Drafts folder exists: {{vault}}/05_WRITING/Drafts/
    • IF MISSING: Create it

Phase 3: Generate Filename

Convert topic to filename:

  • Lowercase
  • Replace spaces with hyphens
  • Remove special characters
  • Prefix with date: YYYY-MM-DD-
  • Suffix: -DRAFT.md

Example: "The AI Native Company" → 2026-02-20-the-ai-native-company-DRAFT.md

Phase 4: Check for Existing File

Check if file already exists at {{vault}}/05_WRITING/Drafts/{{filename}}

  • IF EXISTS: Inform user and ask if they want to open it or create a new version
  • IF NOT EXISTS: Continue to creation

Phase 5: Create Draft File

Create file at {{vault}}/05_WRITING/Drafts/{{filename}} with template:

---
created: {{YYYY-MM-DD}}
status: draft
target: {{target}}
---

# {{Topic Title}}

## Hook

## Body

## Takeaway

---

#writing #draft

Phase 6: Check IDEAS.md

Check if the topic exists in {{vault}}/05_WRITING/Ideas/IDEAS.md:

  • If found in "Ready to Draft" section → offer to mark as started
  • If found in "Seeds" or "Developing" → note the connection

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
