journal

journal is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from thoreinstein/gemini-obsidian. It costs 38 tokens per session (270 once invoked), scanned A, original, ISC.

A workflow for managing an Obsidian daily note, the journal entry used to record a day's work and thoughts. It supports viewing the note, adding logs, and reviewing recent daily notes.

In plain words
What is it for?
Viewing today's entry, capturing work or thoughts under headings such as Notes or Meetings, and summarising a week's daily notes.
Why use it?
It gives recurring daily updates a consistent place and format instead of leaving them scattered across separate notes.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00038 $0.00270
Opus 5 $0.00019 $0.00135
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00054
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00027

Measured 5d ago against content hash 74c0325fb4a3, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

journal scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Daily Journal

Work with today's daily note in the Obsidian vault.

Default Action (no arguments)

  1. Call obsidian_get_daily_note to retrieve today's note
  2. Summarize key tasks, events, or entries
  3. Ask if the user wants to add anything

Quick Capture (with arguments)

If the user provides text after /journal, log it:

  1. Call obsidian_append_daily_log with heading "Notes" and the user's text
  2. Confirm what was logged

Common Headings

When logging entries, use these standard headings:

  • Work Log — tasks, progress, accomplishments
  • Notes — general thoughts and observations
  • Ideas — creative ideas and inspirations
  • Meetings — meeting notes and action items

Weekly Review

If the user asks for a "weekly review":

  1. List recent daily notes via obsidian_list_notes (subfolder "Daily Notes")
  2. Read each day's note
  3. Summarize themes, accomplishments, and open items
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
