cv-usage

cv-usage is a skill for Claude Code from tombelieber/claude-view. It costs 54 tokens per session (3,116 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of coaching, MIT.

A usage-reporting skill for Claude Code. It gathers session counts, token totals, storage information, costs, and changes over time.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review sessions, input and output tokens, cached tokens, cache-hit rates, top projects, and week-over-week trends.
Why use it?
It replaces manual checking of separate usage figures with a single report.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00054 $0.03116
Opus 5 $0.00027 $0.01558
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.00623
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00312

Security

Grade A, and why

cv-usage scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 235 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

You have access to the claude-view MCP server which provides tools for monitoring, analyzing, and managing Claude Code sessions. The claude-view server must be running on localhost (it auto-starts via the plugin hook).

Important: All tool names are prefixed with mcp__claude-view__. When calling a tool, always use the full prefixed name.

Error handling: If a tool returns an error about the server not being detected, tell the user to start it with npx claude-view.

Usage Report

Show usage statistics, token consumption, storage, and trends. This skill focuses on quantitative usage data. For behavioral patterns and insights, use the /insights skill instead.

Steps

  1. Get dashboard stats. Call mcp__claude-view__get_stats to get session counts, top projects, and current week metrics. If the user specifies a time range, pass from and to parameters.

  2. Get token stats. Call mcp__claude-view__get_token_stats to get input/output/cache token totals and cache hit ratio.

  3. Get trends. Call mcp__claude-view__stats_get_trends to get week-over-week comparison.

  4. Present the report:

Usage Report — [date range or "All Time"]

Overview

  • Sessions: N total | This week: M
  • Projects: P | Top: [project name] (X sessions)

Tokens

  • Input: X | Output: Y | Cache read: Z
  • Cache hit ratio: X%

Trends (vs last week)

  • Sessions: +X% | Tokens: +Y%
  • [any notable trend direction]
  1. If the user asks about a specific time range (e.g. "this week", "last month"), pass from and to parameters to get_stats.

  2. If no sessions found, say "No Claude Code sessions found for this time range."

  3. Do NOT show Fluency Score in this report. It requires behavioral context that the /insights skill provides. Showing a bare number without context violates the trust-over-accuracy principle.

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
