hero-loop-background

hero-loop-background is a skill for Claude Code from TommyChryst/claude-web-animations. It costs 101 tokens per session (2,117 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A method for making a full-screen website hero section use a background video that plays forward and then backward in a repeating loop. A hero section is the prominent introductory area at the top of a page.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when building a cinematic landing-page hero with a seamless video loop, optional loading image, configurable height, and light or dark text.
Why use it?
It avoids the visible jump caused by restarting a video at its first frame. It also keeps the hero text readable with a contrast overlay as the video changes.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00101 $0.02117
Opus 5 $0.00051 $0.01059
Sonnet 5 $0.00020 $0.00423
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00212

Security

Grade A, and why

hero-loop-background scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Hero Boomerang Video

This skill creates a full-bleed hero section backed by a looping boomerang video — the clip plays forward, then reverses, creating a seamless loop with no hard cut. Gradient overlays are calibrated so hero text remains readable regardless of which frame is playing.

Requires ffmpeg on PATH.

Step 0 — Gather Inputs

Confirm these with the user before starting:

  • VIDEO_PATH — absolute path to the source video file
  • OUTPUT_DIR — where to write the encoded video (default: assets/)
  • HEADLINE — the hero headline text (needed to calibrate overlay contrast)
  • TEXT_COLORlight (white text on dark video) or dark (dark text on light video). Default: light
  • POSTER_PATH — optional fallback image shown while video loads. If not provided, skip the poster attribute.
  • HERO_HEIGHT — default 100vh (full viewport). Change for partial-height heroes.

Step 1 — Probe the Source Video

ffprobe -v quiet -print_format json -show_streams "VIDEO_PATH" 2>&1

Note: width, height, r_frame_rate, duration. The boomerang will be duration × 2 seconds long.

Step 2 — Create the Boomerang

The boomerang filter reverses the clip in memory and concatenates it after the original: forward → reverse. At the loop point, the last frame of the reversed segment is identical to the first frame of the forward segment — a truly seamless loop.

ffmpeg -y -i "VIDEO_PATH" \
  -an \
  -filter_complex "[0:v]reverse[rv];[0:v][rv]concat=n=2:v=1[outv]" \
  -map "[outv]" \
  -crf 20 \
  -preset slow \
  -movflags +faststart \
  "OUTPUT_DIR/hero-bg.mp4"

Flag notes:

  • -an — strip audio (background video is muted; no need to encode audio)
  • [0:v]reverse[rv] — creates a reversed copy of the video stream in the filter graph
  • concat=n=2:v=1 — concatenates the original + reversed streams
  • -crf 20 — slightly lower quality than scrub video is fine here (always playing, never paused on a frame)
  • -movflags +faststart — moov atom at front so autoplay starts before the full file loads

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
