everything-claude-code: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/coding-standards/SKILL.md

coding-standards is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from tpavanipradeep/everything-claude-code. It costs 28 tokens per session (2,903 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of coding-standards, MIT.

A set of general coding practices for TypeScript, JavaScript, React, and Node.js. It focuses on readable names, simple designs, reusable code, and consistent formatting.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when starting projects, building modules, reviewing code, refactoring, setting up linting or formatting, and maintaining JavaScript or TypeScript code.
Why use it?
Inconsistent or overly complex code is harder to understand, test, and maintain. These practices give developers a shared baseline for writing and reviewing code.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Written for Claude Code and Codex: shipped in a Claude Code plugin, but also agents/openai.yaml present. Also seen: installed under .agents/ (shared by several agents).

This is tpavanipradeep/everything-claude-code's own configuration. It tells Claude Code and Codex how to work on everything-claude-code itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything everything-claude-code configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00028 $0.02903
Opus 5.5 $0.00011 $0.01161
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00581
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00290

Security

Grade A, and why

coding-standards scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Coding Standards & Best Practices

Universal coding standards applicable across all projects.

When to Activate

  • Starting a new project or module
  • Reviewing code for quality and maintainability
  • Refactoring existing code to follow conventions
  • Enforcing naming, formatting, or structural consistency
  • Setting up linting, formatting, or type-checking rules
  • Onboarding new contributors to coding conventions

Code Quality Principles

1. Readability First

  • Code is read more than written
  • Clear variable and function names
  • Self-documenting code preferred over comments
  • Consistent formatting

2. KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid)

  • Simplest solution that works
  • Avoid over-engineering
  • No premature optimization
  • Easy to understand > clever code

3. DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself)

  • Extract common logic into functions
  • Create reusable components
  • Share utilities across modules
  • Avoid copy-paste programming

4. YAGNI (You Aren't Gonna Need It)

  • Don't build features before they're needed
  • Avoid speculative generality
  • Add complexity only when required
  • Start simple, refactor when needed

TypeScript/JavaScript Standards

Variable Naming

// ✅ GOOD: Descriptive names
const marketSearchQuery = 'election'
const isUserAuthenticated = true
const totalRevenue = 1000

// ❌ BAD: Unclear names
const q = 'election'
const flag = true
const x = 1000

Function Naming

// ✅ GOOD: Verb-noun pattern
async function fetchMarketData(marketId: string) { }
function calculateSimilarity(a: number[], b: number[]) { }
function isValidEmail(email: string): boolean { }

// ❌ BAD: Unclear or noun-only
async function market(id: string) { }
function similarity(a, b) { }
function email(e) { }

Immutability Pattern (CRITICAL)

// ✅ ALWAYS use spread operator
const updatedUser = {
  ...user,
  name: 'New Name'
}

const updatedArray = [...items, newItem]

// ❌ NEVER mutate directly
user.name = 'New Name'  // BAD
items.push(newItem)     // BAD

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

coding-standards is a skill published in the GitHub repository tpavanipradeep/everything-claude-code (150 stars, last pushed 7mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 28 tokens to every session and 2,903 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). It is 100% identical to coding-standards, differing in 72 lines, and is treated as a copy.
