traceway-write

traceway-write is a skill for Claude Code from tracewayapp/traceway. It costs 101 tokens per session (4,724 once invoked), scanned C, original, MIT.

A tool for changing data and settings in Traceway, an observability platform that collects application errors, logs, performance data, and alerts. It handles routine actions for on-call engineers.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to acknowledge, resolve, archive, or snooze alerts; change alert rules; run monitors; create post-mortems; and mark endpoints as expected to be slow.
Why use it?
It avoids making manual changes in the Traceway dashboard during incident response. It also provides read access when you need context before changing something.

About the project

Traceway is an OpenTelemetry-based observability platform that collects and connects logs, traces, metrics, session replay, exceptions, and related operational data. Teams use it to understand software behavior and investigate problems. Catalogue add-ons can support workflows around operating and monitoring Traceway.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00101 $0.04724
Opus 5.5 $0.00040 $0.01890
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00020 $0.00945
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00472

Security

Grade C, and why

traceway-write scanned grade C with 2 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 16d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Traceway with write access

This skill drives the traceway-write CLI (or the write MCP server) to make the routine changes an on-call engineer makes: archive issues, acknowledge and resolve pages, snooze or toggle alert rules, run monitors, write post-mortems and mark slow endpoints.

To explain how a part of Traceway works before or after a change (what acknowledging a page does to escalation, how a snooze differs from disabling a rule, how a monitor opens an incident), use the traceway-learn skill. It is the full product guide. Over MCP the same guide is the traceway://knowledge/learn resources.

For pure investigation (debugging an issue, latency analysis), the read-only traceway skill has the deeper playbooks. Its commands work the same way here: every read command of traceway also exists in traceway-write.

If a traceway-write MCP server is connected (stdio traceway-write mcp, or https://<instance>/mcp/write), prefer its tools over shelling out. Its resources carry this skill's knowledge, and its tool names are listed in the table below.

Setup

1. Install the write CLI

traceway-write is a separate binary with its own login, so a read-only traceway install can never be upgraded to write in place.

curl -fsSL https://cli.tracewayapp.com/install.sh | sh -s -- --write
traceway-write version

Prebuilt archives are on the releases page under cli/vX.Y.Z tags as traceway-write_<version>_<os>_<arch>.tar.gz. From source: cd traceway/cli && go build -tags write -o bin/traceway-write ./cmd/traceway.

2. Log in with write access

Ask the user to run the browser login themselves (in Claude Code: ! traceway-write login --url https://<instance>). The approval page says the login asks for read and write access.

traceway-write login --url https://<instance>

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

traceway-write is a skill published in the GitHub repository tracewayapp/traceway (1,757 stars, last pushed 3d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 101 tokens to every session and 4,724 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it C with 2 findings (downloads and executes remote code, makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-16.
