build-collection

build-collection is a skill for Claude Code from TurtleTech-ehf/ookcite-mcp. It costs 43 tokens per session (334 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A reference-collection tool for saving resolved citations and exporting them as BibTeX or a formatted bibliography. BibTeX is a text format used by many academic writing tools, while CSL styles include formats such as APA and IEEE.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for importing bibliographies, adding works by DOI or search text, saving them in a collection, and exporting the collection.
Why use it?
It avoids manually copying references and helps prevent duplicate entries when building a research library.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00043 $0.00334
Opus 5.5 $0.00017 $0.00134
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00009 $0.00067
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00033

Security

Grade A, and why

build-collection scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Build the collection with the OokCite connector, then export it. Collection tools need a signed-in account on the hosted connector, or OOKCITE_API_KEY on a server the user runs. If a tool reports that sign-in or a key is required, stop and say so.

  1. Call check_duplicates with collection and query before adding a work the user may already have saved.
  2. For a pasted bibliography, call import_bibliography with content and collection. For a list of DOIs or free-text queries, call batch_add_to_collection with collection and queries. Leave use_live_queries false unless the user asks to search beyond the local corpus.
  3. Call export_collection. Use format bib for BibTeX. Use format csl, or a style id such as ieee, for formatted bibliography text, and set style when format is csl (default apa).
  4. Do not call delete_collection, remove_from_collection, or unshare_collection unless the user asked to delete or revoke.
  5. Reply with the export text and the collection name. A free account has 4 collections and 200 entries each. merge_collections and batch_move_entries need an Academic or Business plan.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

build-collection is a skill published in the GitHub repository TurtleTech-ehf/ookcite-mcp (2 stars, last pushed 3d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 43 tokens to every session and 334 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-05.
