format-bibliography

format-bibliography is a skill for Claude Code from TurtleTech-ehf/ookcite-mcp. It costs 48 tokens per session (276 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A bibliography formatter for turning a pasted reference list or citation into BibTeX or a named CSL style such as APA or IEEE. BibTeX is a text format for reference-management and academic writing tools.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for formatting pasted lists, DOI-based citations, BibTeX, or RIS data into a chosen bibliography style.
Why use it?
Manually reformatting references is repetitive and can produce inconsistent punctuation or missing details. It returns formatted citation text rather than full documents.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00048 $0.00276
Opus 5.5 $0.00019 $0.00110
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00055
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00028

Security

Grade A, and why

format-bibliography scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Format the bibliography with the OokCite connector. Return citation metadata only. Do not fetch PDFs or full text.

  1. For one DOI, call format_citation with doi and style. The default style is apa.
  2. For several citations that should come back in one style, call batch_format with citations and style. Leave use_live_queries false unless the user asks to search beyond the local corpus.
  3. For a pasted numbered list, blank-line list, BibTeX, or RIS, call import_bibliography. Set format to plaintext, bibtex, ris, or auto. Omit collection when the user wants the text back and does not want it saved. Pass style when they also want CSL text.
  4. A paste with no collection is limited to 8 metered items and the anonymous daily cap. A longer list needs a signed-in account and the build-collection skill.
  5. Reply with the bibliography text. Do not paste the raw tool payload.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

format-bibliography is a skill published in the GitHub repository TurtleTech-ehf/ookcite-mcp (2 stars, last pushed 3d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 48 tokens to every session and 276 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-05.
