anthropic-mcp-builder

anthropic-mcp-builder is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ufy2024/AuC. It costs 63 tokens per session (2,040 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of mcp-builder, MIT.

A development guide for building MCP servers, which let AI models use tools connected to outside services such as APIs. It covers Python and Node/TypeScript implementations.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when connecting an AI model to an external API or service. It helps plan the available tools, name them clearly, describe them concisely, and implement them with FastMCP or the MCP SDK.
Why use it?
It helps avoid poorly designed tools that are difficult for an AI model to discover or use. It gives a structured way to plan the server and decide between individual API operations and complete workflows.

About the project

AuC is a Python framework for running a single AI agent with an asynchronous, pluggable reasoning loop, language-model adapters, permission levels, and observable events. It is used to build coding and conversational agents with tools, security checks, web interfaces, background jobs, evaluations, and isolated execution. The catalogue entries are skills for extending its agent workflow.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00063 $0.02040
Opus 5 $0.00032 $0.01020
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00408
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00204

Security

Grade A, and why

anthropic-mcp-builder scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

MCP Server Development Guide

Overview

Create MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers that enable LLMs to interact with external services through well-designed tools. The quality of an MCP server is measured by how well it enables LLMs to accomplish real-world tasks.

Process

🚀 High-Level Workflow

Creating a high-quality MCP server involves four main phases:

Phase 1: Deep Research and Planning

1.1 Understand Modern MCP Design

API Coverage vs. Workflow Tools: Balance comprehensive API endpoint coverage with specialized workflow tools. Workflow tools can be more convenient for specific tasks, while comprehensive coverage gives agents flexibility to compose operations. Performance varies by client—some clients benefit from code execution that combines basic tools, while others work better with higher-level workflows. When uncertain, prioritize comprehensive API coverage.

Tool Naming and Discoverability: Clear, descriptive tool names help agents find the right tools quickly. Use consistent prefixes (e.g., github_create_issue, github_list_repos) and action-oriented naming.

Context Management: Agents benefit from concise tool descriptions and the ability to filter/paginate results. Design tools that return focused, relevant data. Some clients support code execution which can help agents filter and process data efficiently.

Actionable Error Messages: Error messages should guide agents toward solutions with specific suggestions and next steps.

1.2 Study MCP Protocol Documentation

Navigate the MCP specification:

Start with the sitemap to find relevant pages: https://modelcontextprotocol.io/sitemap.xml

Then fetch specific pages with .md suffix for markdown format (e.g., https://modelcontextprotocol.io/specification/draft.md).

Key pages to review:

  • Specification overview and architecture
  • Transport mechanisms (streamable HTTP, stdio)
  • Tool, resource, and prompt definitions

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
