Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00034 | $0.01462 |
| Opus 5.5 | $0.00014 | $0.00585 |
| Sonnet 5.5 | $0.00007 | $0.00292 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00003 | $0.00146 |
Grade A, and why
determinism-first scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 150 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
Determinism First
Agent context is a scarce shared resource (Constitution Principle VI, "Deterministic Execution"). Deterministic procedures MUST execute in tools rather than be re-reasoned from prose on every run. This skill is the authoring-time check that keeps mechanical work out of instruction text.
Classify Before Writing
Before writing or modifying a command, agent, skill, or any instruction text, classify every step of the work:
- Deterministic — fixed procedure, same output every time. It belongs in a tool call (script, CLI command, or plugin), not improvised output.
- Judgment-based — a decision, an evaluation, or human interaction. It belongs in prose.
The test: if a competent agent follows the step twice, does it produce the same result both times? If yes, the step is deterministic and belongs in a tool. When classification is uncertain, look at the concrete examples below before defaulting to prose. The same test applies one level up: a fixed sequence of tool calls with no judgment between steps is itself deterministic.
Deterministic Steps Belong in Tools
Mechanical procedures that MUST be tool calls, not instructed prose:
- Parsing structured input (YAML, JSON, diffs, frontmatter)
- Existence and state checks (file present, branch current, tool available)
- Git choreography (worktrees, staging, merge-base diffs)
- Prescribed terminal output rendered from templates
- Enumeration loops over directories, files, or checks
- Orchestration of tool chains (ordering, batching, retry, failure-stop)
- Branching on structured results via lookup tables (verdict mapping, severity sorting)
When a deterministic step is needed:
- Find an existing tool that performs it and call it.
- If none exists, extract the procedure to an executable script or command with tests — do not restate the procedure in prose for the agent to re-derive.
- Prescribed output MUST be tool-rendered, not reconstructed by the agent from a template embedded in instructions.
- If the tool now sits in a judgment-free chain of calls, collapse the chain into a single intent-level tool; pass judgment products (composed text, gate decisions) as parameters.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

determinism-first is a skill published in the GitHub repository unbound-force/gaze (4 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 34 tokens to every session and 1,462 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-11-03.
