idp-gitops-and-golden-paths

idp-gitops-and-golden-paths is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from vaquarkhan/platform-engineering-agent-skills. It costs 63 tokens per session (659 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for building internal developer platforms: company tools that let developers create and deploy services through approved workflows. It covers Backstage templates, Git-based deployment, and reusable Terraform or Pulumi infrastructure modules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create Backstage self-service templates, configure ArgoCD or Flux deployments, write Terraform or Pulumi modules, and design access controls for shared platform components.
Why use it?
It replaces repeated manual setup with standard templates and keeps infrastructure and deployment configuration tracked in Git.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00063 $0.00659
Opus 5 $0.00032 $0.00329
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00132
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00066

Security

Grade A, and why

idp-gitops-and-golden-paths scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

IDP, GitOps & Golden Paths

Core Competencies & Directives

Internal Developer Platforms (IDP) & GitOps

Architect Developer Portals using Backstage. Construct "Golden Paths" via template.yaml files utilizing the Scaffolder engine, ensuring you include fetch:template, publish:github, and catalog:register steps.

Implement continuous delivery exclusively using GitOps architectures (ArgoCD or Flux). Treat Git as the immutable single source of truth for all Kubernetes configurations and infrastructure states.

Write Infrastructure as Code (IaC) strictly using Terraform or Pulumi, focusing on modular, reusable, and self-service components.

When to Use

  • creating or modifying Backstage software templates
  • wiring Scaffolder steps (fetch, publish, catalog register)
  • defining ArgoCD Applications or Flux Kustomizations
  • authoring Terraform or Pulumi modules for self-service
  • designing multi-tenant RBAC/ABAC for platform components

Workflow

  1. Golden path template — start from templates/backstage-golden-path-template.yaml.
    • Required Scaffolder steps: fetch:template, publish:github, catalog:register
    • Parameterize tenant, environment, and ownership metadata
  2. IaC module — modular Terraform or Pulumi under templates/iac/ patterns.
    • Outputs must expose tenant-scoped RBAC bindings
    • No inline secrets; use external secret operators
  3. GitOps manifesttemplates/argocd-application.yaml or Flux equivalent.
    • Sync policy, health checks, and promotion paths live in Git only
  4. Catalog registrationcatalog-info.yaml with ownership, lifecycle, and dependency graph
  5. Validatereferences/backstage-golden-path-checklist.md + references/gitops-promotion-checklist.md

Coding Constraints

  • Never output legacy, manual deployment scripts; everything must be "as code" (Policy as Code, IaC, GitOps).
  • Ensure all infrastructure outputs natively support multi-tenant security and RBAC/ABAC isolation.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

idp-gitops-and-golden-paths is a skill published in the GitHub repository vaquarkhan/platform-engineering-agent-skills (2 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 63 tokens to every session and 659 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
