In plain words
What is it for?
Checking tools such as GitHub, AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Vercel, Netlify, Fly, Heroku, Railway, and other command-line services.
Why use it?

About the project

Vellum Assistant is a personal AI assistant that remembers information about users, learns their preferences, and takes actions across connected apps. Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00017 $0.00615
Opus 5 $0.00009 $0.00308
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00123
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00061

Security

Grade A, and why

cli-discover scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

CLI Discovery

When you need to discover what CLI tools are available on the system, use host_bash to check directly. Do not use sandboxed bash for discovery - it may not see host-installed CLIs or auth state, leading to false negatives.

Checking if a CLI exists

which <name> # returns path if found, exits non-zero if missing
command -v <name> # alternative, works in all POSIX shells

Getting version info

<name> --version # most CLIs support this flag

Use a 5-second timeout to avoid hanging on unresponsive CLIs.

Auth-check commands

For CLIs that support authentication, check whether the user is logged in:

CLI Auth check command
gh gh auth status
aws aws sts get-caller-identity
gcloud gcloud auth list --filter=status:ACTIVE --format=value(account)
az az account show
vercel vercel whoami
netlify netlify status
fly fly auth whoami
heroku heroku auth:whoami
railway railway whoami

Common CLIs worth checking

When doing a broad discovery, check these categories:

  • Version control & code hosting: gh, git, gitlab
  • Project management: linear, jira
  • Communication: slack
  • Cloud providers: aws, gcloud, az
  • Containers & infra: docker, kubectl, terraform
  • Runtimes & package managers: node, bun, deno, python3, pip3
  • HTTP clients: curl, httpie
  • Hosting & deploy: vercel, netlify, fly, heroku, railway

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

cli-discover is a skill published in the GitHub repository vellum-ai/vellum-assistant (1,204 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 17 tokens to every session and 615 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
