brand

brand is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from VGrss/Acumen. It costs 37 tokens per session (1,168 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A tool for creating and maintaining DESIGN.md, a checked-in document that records a project’s visual identity for coding agents. It covers colours, typography, components, spacing, and rounded corners.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to scan existing styles and update the full design system or one selected section of DESIGN.md.
Why use it?
It keeps design decisions and their reasons in one shared contract so later UI work stays consistent.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00037 $0.01168
Opus 5 $0.00018 $0.00584
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00234
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00117

Security

Grade A, and why

brand scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 125 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

MANDATORY PREPARATION

Invoke /product-thinking — it contains product principles and the Context Gathering Protocol. Follow the protocol before proceeding — if no product context exists yet, you MUST run /teach-acumen first.

Mindset: A brand is a contract with the people you serve, expressed in design decisions. DESIGN.md makes that contract legible to coding agents so UI work stays consistent without re-prompting. Tokens give agents exact values; prose tells them why those values exist.

DESIGN.md follows the Google DESIGN.md spec. It lives at the project root (not in .acumen/) and IS checked in — it's a contract, not gitignored context.

Behavior

When called with a section argument (colors, typography, components, spacing, rounded): Update only that section. Ask the user what changed and why.

When called without argument or with all: Full scan and refresh. Build from existing styles outward, not from a blank template.

Research Process

  1. Read .acumen.md for product context — positioning, audience, brand voice cues
  2. Read existing DESIGN.md if it exists
  3. Scan the codebase for source-of-truth styles:
    • tailwind.config.{js,ts}theme.extend colors, fontFamily, spacing, borderRadius
    • app/globals.css / src/styles/*.css — CSS custom properties (--color-*, --font-*)
    • Component primitives (Button, Card, Input) — extract token usage patterns
    • Any existing design tokens file (tokens.json, tokens.css)
  4. Read brand prose if available — README, marketing site copy, brand guidelines doc
  5. For each token category, capture both the value and the rationale:
    • Colors — primary, secondary, tertiary, neutral; what each is for, not just what it is
    • Typography — heading scale, body, captions; voice the type carries (authority, warmth, precision)
    • Spacing & rounded — rhythm and softness; what the system feels like
    • Components — map composite tokens (button-primary, button-primary-hover) to primitives via references like {colors.tertiary}

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

brand is a skill published in the GitHub repository VGrss/Acumen (11 stars, last pushed 28d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 37 tokens to every session and 1,168 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings.
