vidhook-movie

vidhook-movie is a skill for Claude Code from vidhook/vidhook-mcp. It costs 78 tokens per session (1,781 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A video-rendering tool that turns a Movie JSON description into an MP4 file. The description can include scenes, images, video, text, audio, and transitions; you provide the media URLs.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create slideshows, add motion to photos, combine scenes, place titles or text over video, add transitions, and include background music.
Why use it?
It checks the video plan before rendering, so invalid layouts or an unexpected render cost can be found early. It also provides draft rendering for previewing the result.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00078 $0.01781
Opus 5 $0.00039 $0.00890
Sonnet 5 $0.00016 $0.00356
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00178

Security

Grade A, and why

vidhook-movie scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (examples.test.ts), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

vidhook: authoring Movie JSON

vidhook is a rendering primitive: you give it a Movie JSON (scenes, images/video/text/audio, transitions) and it renders an MP4. It does not generate or host assets. Every src is an http(s) URL you provide — host them yourself (your own CDN/storage) or get URLs from a generation MCP, then reference them. The example URLs here (https://cdn.example.com/...) are placeholders; replace them with real, reachable assets.

This skill is the brain (how to write correct Movie JSON). The vidhook-mcp server is the hands (validate, render, get_status tools that call the vidhook API). Use them together.

Workflow — always validate first

  1. Author a Movie JSON (see patterns and examples/ below).
  2. validate the Movie. This consumes no credits and starts no render. It returns either field-level errors or estimatedCredits. Fix errors and re-validate until it is valid and the cost is acceptable. estimatedCredits is exactly what render will reserve.
  3. render a draft using a vh_test_ key (free tier → watermarked output) to preview the actual video. It returns renderId + bucketName.
  4. get_status with that renderId + bucketName, polling until done is true. When done and not fatalErrorEncountered, outputFile is the result video URL.
  5. Finalize with a vh_live_ key (paid → clean, no watermark) once the draft looks right.

Never skip step 2. Validating first is free and catches every schema mistake before you spend credits or wait on a render.

API key axes (set via environment, never tool arguments)

Two independent axes, both configured on the MCP server via environment variables:

  • Key type → watermark & billing: vh_test_… = free tier, watermarked (drafts); vh_live_… = paid, clean (finals).
  • Base URL → environment: VIDHOOK_API_BASE_URL selects which environment you talk to. It does not change watermarking. A vh_test_ key always watermarks, regardless of base URL.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
