start-module

start-module is a skill for Claude Code from virastack/start. It costs 103 tokens per session (1,711 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow for building a ViraStack Start module from registry code through its feature page. A module is a reusable feature with screens, data handling, forms, and tests that runs on example data rather than a real API.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create or change a module, its loading, error, and empty states, its forms and tests, its live preview, and its copyable usage prompt.
Why use it?
It keeps the module consistent across supported project templates and makes clear which parts are provided and which API integration remains the user's job.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00103 $0.01711
Opus 5.5 $0.00041 $0.00684
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00021 $0.00342
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00171

Security

Grade A, and why

start-module scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Start module

A module is a working feature the reader copies into their Start project: screens with loading, error and empty states, its data layer, forms and tests. It runs on dummy data with no API. Connecting a real API and adapting the response model is the reader's job; the module only makes that easy. A module never brings a page or route: the reader puts it on a page of their own.

Principles

  • Own packages first: use @virastack/mask, @virastack/password and @virastack/address where they fit. Check their current docs before writing custom code for the same job.
  • shadcn stays original: never edit or override files under components/ui. Custom code lives in the module's own components.
  • Same rules as the templates: feature folder src/features/<name>, no barrels, only the @/* alias, one-way imports, English code and comments.
  • Every template: the module works in all four (nextjs, tanstack, nextjs-i18n, tanstack-i18n). Only show work in the Next.js template, but change and test all four.

Source (this repository)

  • registry/<name>/common/src/features/<name>/: shared files.
  • registry/<name>/<framework>/: framework-specific files that replace or add to common.
  • registry/<name>/<framework>-i18n/: the i18n layer replaces the common files that hold text and carries messages/tr.json and messages/en.json, which virastack add merges into src/messages.
  • Register the module in FEATURES in scripts/build-registry.js: name, English title and description, frameworks, route (feature, component, optional fallback and routeSearch), packages for ViraStack packages, minStartVersion.
  • Dependencies come from the files' imports; template built-ins are left out. registryDependencies is not used.
  • Tests ship with the module: Vitest, Testing Library and MSW, colocated as *.test.ts(x).

Build and test

  1. npm run check in this repository.
  2. npm run build:registry writes the JSON to ../virastack.com/public/r and runs sync:preview, which copies the module into virastack.com/src/features/start/demos/<name>/ with its install-files.ts. The preview is generated: never edit it by hand.
  3. node scripts/e2e.js --full --only <text> installs a fresh project, runs add <name>, typecheck, lint:ci, test and build with and without the page the site's prompt asks the agent for (scripts/feature-route.ts), then remove <name>. Run it for all four templates before calling the module ready.
  4. remove deletes the module's files, empty folders and messages, and asks before deleting files the reader changed. Check that too.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
