Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00052 | $0.02013 |
| Opus 5.5 | $0.00021 | $0.00805 |
| Sonnet 5.5 | $0.00010 | $0.00403 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00005 | $0.00201 |
Grade A, and why
semantic-search scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 140 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
The semantic-code server splits a project into functions, classes, methods, module docstrings and document sections and finds them by the words their code uses, ranked, the chunks named as the query first. It answers what Grep cannot: the few chunks that best match, not every line. It does not answer what Grep does better.
1. Which tool
| You want | Use |
|---|---|
| a string, a regex | Grep |
| the definition of a name you know | search_code with the name |
| every call site of a name | Grep: search_code returns its best matches only |
| a file whose path you know | Read |
| behaviour you can describe but not name | search_code |
| a concept spread over several files | search_code, then Grep the names it shows |
| a language the server does not index | Grep |
The loop that works: search_code → Read the line range of the best hit → Grep the names
you found there.
The server indexes Python, Rust and Markdown files: languages takes python, rust
and markdown.
2. Before the first search
project_pathis absolute. Give the repository's root, or a directory inside it to keep the search to that directory: the repository keeps one index either way, andproject_rootin the answers ofindex_statusandindex_codebasenames it (a directory the repository ignores, or one in a repository that holds the home directory, is a project of its own, and names itself). Left out, it is the client's workspace root, the directory Claude Code was started in, which must lie in a git repository: a folder of projects, or the home directory, would be indexed as one. Give it whenever the work lies outside that directory or outside any repository; a client that names no single root, or a root no repository holds, gets an error asking forproject_path.- The first call indexes the whole project's words, seconds even on a large one; on a server its user set to search by meaning too, the first search also embeds every chunk, minutes on a large one and about an hour on one of 90k chunks, with progress. Wait for it; do not call again while it runs.
- If the tools are missing, tell the user the server is not installed and point them to semantic-code-mcp's README (github.com/vrppaul/semantic-code-mcp); do not install it yourself.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

semantic-search is a skill published in the GitHub repository vrppaul/semantic-code-mcp (4 stars, last pushed 7d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 52 tokens to every session and 2,013 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-31.
