quick-capture

quick-capture is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from vscarpenter/gsd-task-manager. It costs 0 tokens per session (284 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for adding one new task to GSD Task Manager, a system for organizing work by urgency and importance. It interprets phrases such as “remind me” or “add a task.”

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to capture a single task, optionally add a project tag or stated due date, and place it in the appropriate urgency-and-importance category.
Why use it?
It turns a natural-language request into the required task fields and chooses a priority quadrant without changing existing tasks.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00000 $0.00284
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00142
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00057
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00028

Measured 4d ago against content hash 7c3a5503a019, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

quick-capture scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Skill: Quick Capture

Use this skill to drop a new task into GSD Task Manager from any AI assistant that has the gsd-mcp-server connected.

Trigger

Invoke when the user asks to "add a task", "remind me to", "capture", "queue up", or similar phrasing that maps to creating a single new task.

Steps

  1. Decide quadrant from the user's wording:
    • explicit deadline today / blocking → urgent=true, important=true
    • long-term planning, learning, prep → urgent=false, important=true
    • quick favor, low value request → urgent=true, important=false
    • everything else → urgent=false, important=false
  2. Call create_task with { title, urgent, important, tags?, dueAt? }. Pass dryRun: true first when the user is exploring options.
  3. If the user named a project, add it as a tag (lowercase, kebab-case).
  4. Confirm the created quadrant back to the user in one short sentence.

Anti-goals

  • Do not create more than one task per invocation. Use bulk_update_tasks for batch work instead.
  • Do not invent due dates the user did not state.
  • Do not modify existing tasks; that belongs in the triage-inbox skill.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

quick-capture is a skill published in the GitHub repository vscarpenter/gsd-task-manager (24 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 284 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
