docs-validating-links

docs-validating-links is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from wahidyankf/ose-public. It costs 30 tokens per session (856 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A method for checking Markdown links, including links to files inside a repository and links to outside websites. It verifies paths, fragments, formatting, and whether external addresses can be reached.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to validate documentation links, check target files and headings, verify external URLs, and implement or review link-checking tools.
Why use it?
It finds broken navigation and references before readers encounter them. It also covers cases where an automated checker misses page fragments or excludes certain files.

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00030 $0.00856
Opus 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00342
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00171
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00086

Security

Grade A, and why

docs-validating-links scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 119 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

This Skill provides comprehensive guidance for validating markdown links across the repository, including internal link validation, external link verification, and checker implementation strategies.

Purpose

Use this Skill when:

  • Implementing link validation in checker agents
  • Validating internal documentation links
  • Verifying external URL accessibility
  • Checking site link formatting
  • Implementing link caching strategies
  • Understanding link validation patterns

Lifecycle Delegation

No declared gate validates internal links (./rhino gate list declares none), so internal paths and fragments always stay in scope here, as the Quality Gate Contract boundary allows. ./rhino md internal-link validate runs on demand only: it reports links whose target file is missing, skips links in code spans and fenced blocks and the sources repo-config.yml excludes, and does not check #fragment anchors, so verify anchors yourself. Continue external HTTP reachability and cache maintenance.

Why Link Validation Matters

Broken links:

  • Break user navigation experience
  • Reduce documentation credibility
  • Create maintenance burden (hard to find broken links manually)
  • Indicate structural issues (moved/deleted files)

Link validation:

  • Prevents broken links from reaching production
  • Catches file renames and moves
  • Validates external resources still exist
  • Ensures consistent link formatting

Validation Scope

What to validate:

  • Internal markdown links (docs/, repo-governance/, plans/)
  • Content links (apps/ayokoding-www/, apps/ose-www/)
  • External URLs (HTTP/HTTPS)
  • Image links (relative paths)
  • Anchor links (same-page headings)

What NOT to validate:

  • Links in code blocks (examples, not actual links)
  • Links in quoted text (preserved formatting)
  • Commented-out links (intentionally disabled)

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

docs-validating-links is a skill published in the GitHub repository wahidyankf/ose-public (12 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 30 tokens to every session and 856 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-14.
