gpui-mockup

gpui-mockup is a skill for Claude Code from wavyrai/tmux-ide. It costs 0 tokens per session (2,201 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow for designing Herdr GPUI interface elements as real Rust code in a temporary mockup window. It creates several visual variants, shows them together, and incorporates the user’s chosen direction and notes.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for exploring layouts, hierarchy, density, and interaction choices for GPUI interface elements, then iterating on the selected design.
Why use it?
It lets developers compare interface structures in the application’s own theme and fonts before moving a design into the real module.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.02201
Opus 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00880
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00440
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00220

Security

Grade A, and why

gpui-mockup scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/wait.sh), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

GPUI mockup

Build several variants of a herdr-gpui UI element as GPUI code, compile them into the app's dev-only --mockup window, check a capture yourself, and iterate with the user until they settle on one. Then move it into the real module.

The argument names what to design. If none is given, infer it from the conversation. Ask one question only when what to make is unclear, not for style details.

Steps

  1. Read what exists. Find the code that draws the element today (for example sidebar/layouts/*.rs, window/tab_strip.rs, menu/chrome.rs, usage/ui.rs, titlebar.rs) and the tokens it uses. Variants should read as evolutions of this app: its theme colors, corner radii and fonts. Vary structure, hierarchy and density rather than inventing a new identity.

  2. Brainstorm 3–4 directions that differ in layout, hierarchy, density, or interaction, each a coherent choice someone could make.

  3. Write the file. Create a dedicated temporary directory, never inside the repository:

    dir=$(mktemp -d /tmp/gpui-mockup.XXXXXX)

Write $dir/mockup.rs, starting from crates/herdr-gpui/src/mockup/demo.rs, the built-in example. The rules are under Writing variants.

  4. Build and open it in the background, keeping the log:

    just mockup $dir/mockup.rs $dir/feedback.md $dir/shot.png > $dir/run.log 2>&1 &

Poll $dir/run.log with a bounded wait:

    • mockup: ready pid=N: the window is open. Record N; it is the only process you may stop later.
    • mockup: captured <path>: the PNG is written.
    • mockup: capture failed ...: this platform cannot capture. Skip the self-check and say so.
    • A compiler error means the process has exited. The error names lines in $dir/mockup.rs; fix them and run the command again.

The first build compiles the crate with the mockup feature, which takes about a minute. Later builds take seconds.

  5. Check your own work. Read $dir/shot.png before handing off. It is the whole window at device resolution, in the user's theme. Fix clipped or overflowing text, unreadable contrast, misalignment, and variants that look too alike, then rebuild (Iterate).

  6. Hand off. Tell the user the mockup window is open and how to answer:

    • Click Pick on the variants they like; mixing is fine.
    • Write a note under any variant, plus an overall note at the bottom ("B's header with C's list").
    • Press Send to agent (⌘↩).
    • The toolbar switches theme (their own theme first, then the built-in ones) and frame width (Narrow, Design, Wide). Keys 1–9 show one variant and 0 shows all. Esc leaves a note field.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

gpui-mockup is a skill published in the GitHub repository wavyrai/tmux-ide (550 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 2,201 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-15.
