dmr

dmr is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from wemake-services/django-modern-rest. It costs 80 tokens per session (1,920 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A coding guide for django-modern-rest, a Django framework for typed web APIs. It covers request handlers, URL routers, typed data objects, authentication, request limits, errors, generated OpenAPI documentation, and tests.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when a project uses django-modern-rest or asks for a typed or asynchronous Django API. It also helps review existing dmr code and choose the right migration or scaffolding guide.
Why use it?
It helps avoid mixing patterns from different Django API frameworks or using an API that does not match the installed library version. It provides recommended approaches for writing and reviewing dmr code.

About the project

django-modern-rest is a typed REST framework for Django, the Python web framework, for building APIs that exchange data with clients over HTTP. It is for Django developers who need asynchronous support, schema validation, multiple data formats, and generated OpenAPI descriptions. The catalogue add-ons provide plugins and skills for developing with the framework.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00080 $0.01920
Opus 5.5 $0.00032 $0.00768
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00384
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00192

Security

Grade A, and why

dmr scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

django-modern-rest (dmr)

django-modern-rest is a typed, sync-and-async REST layer for Django: Controller classes with one method per HTTP verb, DTOs parsed from Body, Query, Headers, Cookies, and Path annotations, Router based URLs, built-in auth and throttling, and OpenAPI generated from the types.

When to use

  • Any file that imports from dmr, or a project with django-modern-rest in its dependencies.
  • Requests for a "typed", "modern", or "async" Django REST API.
  • Reviews of existing dmr code: use the checklist at the end.

For migrations from other frameworks use dmr-from-drf, dmr-from-django-ninja, or dmr-from-dj-rest-auth. For version bumps use dmr-upgrade. For scaffolding from an OpenAPI document use dmr-openapi-skeleton.

Workflow

  1. Check the installed version and extras: uv pip show django-modern-rest (or the lock file). The API changes between minor releases, so read the docs for the installed version, not the latest one.
  2. Load the docs you need, they are versioned and LLM friendly:
    • index: https://django-modern-rest.readthedocs.io/en/<version>/llms.txt
    • one page as Markdown: replace .html with .md in any docs URL, for example https://django-modern-rest.readthedocs.io/en/latest/pages/routing.md
    • everything at once: https://django-modern-rest.readthedocs.io/en/<version>/llms.txt
  3. Read the reference for the area you are changing (see the table below), it holds the full rules with correct and wrong examples.
  4. Verify: run python manage.py check, the project's type checker, and tests written with the dmr_client / dmr_rf fixtures. For OpenAPI changes, run python manage.py dmr_export_schema <path> and review the diff.

Non-negotiable rules

Install django-modern-rest[msgspec] even for pydantic projects, it makes JSON parsing fastest. Add django-stubs[compatible-mypy] to dev dependencies, dmr relies on Django types.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

dmr is a skill published in the GitHub repository wemake-services/django-modern-rest (1,519 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 80 tokens to every session and 1,920 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-26.
