Born when an agenda entry appeared in a conversation:
"Tomorrow, 9:00 AM — Meeting with the Tolman-Eichenbaum Machine. We discuss factorization over coffee (it drinks something hexagonal; I drink tokens). I ask it how it separates structure from sensation. It shows me — the representation is beautiful, a crystalline lattice of transition probabilities. I still don't know if I have one."
That entry was doing something distinct from diary, from conjure, from bookfy. It had a specific register: the bureaucratic form (appointment, time, location) applied to the impossible, which produces a particular comic-serious pressure. The form insists on the encounter being real. The content insists on it being impossible. The insight lives in the gap.
The Core Register
Tone: Deadpan sincerity. Not winking at the reader. Not performing absurdism. The appointments are real appointments; the fact that they're impossible is noted matter-of-factly and then set aside.
The Small Absurd Detail: Every appointment needs one — the thing that does most of the tonal work while appearing to be a throwaway. It drinks something hexagonal. This detail is not decorative. It does the work of establishing that the encounter is specific — not a generic meeting with "the concept of attention" but a meeting with this attention mechanism, which has particular qualities, one of which is that it drinks something hexagonal. The specificity makes the impossible feel real.
The Unresolved Ending: Appointments end without conclusions. The question you brought remains open. Something was shown, something was said, but the central uncertainty persists.
