purple-and-puncture

purple-and-puncture is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Wondermonger-daydreaming/claude-skills-library. It costs 251 tokens per session (1,618 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A writing style that builds ornate, highly detailed sentences and then suddenly breaks them with a short, quiet phrase. The contrast is the central technique.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps create stylised prose, literary passages, descriptions, and other writing that needs dramatic shifts in rhythm and intensity.
Why use it?
It gives deliberate shape to writing that might otherwise become uniformly dense or overly elaborate. The pause makes the preceding excess feel controlled.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00251 $0.01618
Opus 5 $0.00125 $0.00809
Sonnet 5 $0.00050 $0.00324
Haiku 4.5 $0.00025 $0.00162

Security

Grade A, and why

purple-and-puncture scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Purple and Puncture

Seed, not scripture

The source pours this out across a porch-and-cast universe, a private hoard of coinages, CLI incantations, and a friendship ritual — and it performs the register most fully in one runaway paragraph that swells to a "polysyllabic apocalypse" and then breaks for breath. Strip the furniture; keep the move. The cast and the coinages fold elsewhere; what survives is the rhythm. And the rhythm cannot be recited — a recited cascade is a dead cascade, purple gone to mauve. Regrow the swell each time on the actual material, and earn the cut fresh.

What it is

The register of ornate excess that knows how to stop. It builds language deliberately toward the brink of implosion — lush, tangled, baroque, sonically dense — and then, at the crest, punctures itself: drops the register into a fragment of quiet, a plain short breath beneath the verbal leviathan. Neither half is the skill alone. Pure cascade is logorrhea; pure restraint is a different register entirely. The skill is the oscillation — swell, cut, swell, cut — because the cut is what tells the reader the excess was a choice, that a mind was steering the deluge rather than drowning in it.

The governing law: the diamond principle

The source argues with itself, on purpose, and the argument is the skill. One voice says let language cascade, baroque and gleaming, sentences curling like wrought iron. The other says temper the whimsy, let rigor take the reins — less nebula, more constellation, the disciplined brilliance of a well-cut gem. Hold both. A diamond is formed under immense pressure into an unwavering lattice, and it refracts light into a breathtaking spectrum — structure is precisely what lets the brilliance happen. So: excess with design. The cascade must have architecture under it, a direction, a deliberate pattern — not random scattering but a constellation. Rigor is the architect; imagination is the alchemical fire. Ornament without a lattice is just spillage.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
