raycast-dev

raycast-dev is a skill for Claude Code from wyattjoh/skills. It costs 108 tokens per session (3,170 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Guidance for creating and maintaining Raycast extensions, which add commands and interfaces to the Raycast launcher for macOS.

In plain words
What is it for?
Useful for building commands, lists, details, forms, grids, menu-bar tools, AI extensions, and publishing extensions to the Raycast Store.
Why use it?
It helps the agent identify the extension type and use the appropriate React, TypeScript, and Raycast APIs.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00108 $0.03170
Opus 5 $0.00054 $0.01585
Sonnet 5 $0.00022 $0.00634
Haiku 4.5 $0.00011 $0.00317

Measured 6d ago against content hash c9f3a6c35c79, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

raycast-dev scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Authoring Raycast Extensions

Overview

Provide expert guidance for building, maintaining, and publishing Raycast extensions using React, TypeScript, and the Raycast API. Support all extension types including standard commands, AI extensions, menu bar extensions, and script commands.

Initial Discovery

Before beginning work, determine the current context by following this workflow:

1. Detect Current Working Directory

Check if currently in a Raycast extension directory:

# Look for Raycast extension indicators
ls -la package.json src/ assets/ 2>/dev/null

Indicators of a Raycast extension:

  • package.json with @raycast/api dependency
  • src/ directory with .tsx files
  • assets/ directory with icon.png
  • Commands defined in package.json

2. Identify Extension Type

If in an existing extension, analyze package.json to determine extension type:

Standard Command Extension:

{
  "commands": [
    {
      "name": "search",
      "mode": "view", // ← Indicates standard command
      "title": "Search Items"
    }
  ]
}

AI Extension:

{
  "ai": { "instructions": "..." },  // ← Indicates AI extension
  "tools": [...] // top-level, not nested inside "ai"
}

Menu Bar Extension:

{
  "commands": [
    {
      "name": "status",
      "mode": "menu-bar", // ← Indicates menu bar extension
      "interval": "5m"
    }
  ]
}

No-View Command:

{
  "commands": [
    {
      "name": "action",
      "mode": "no-view" // ← Background command
    }
  ]
}

3. Understand User Intent

When the user requests changes, clarify:

  • For new extensions: Ask about extension type if not specified
  • For existing extensions: Analyze current structure and propose changes
  • For feature additions: Determine if adding new command or enhancing existing one
  • For debugging: Identify error messages and relevant code sections

Core Workflows

Creating a New Extension

When creating a new extension from scratch:

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

raycast-dev is a skill published in the GitHub repository wyattjoh/skills (2 stars, last pushed 3d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 108 tokens to every session and 3,170 once invoked, about $0.0005 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
