excalidraw-diagrams

excalidraw-diagrams is a skill for Claude Code from Xe/agent-plugins. It costs 42 tokens per session (1,888 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Instructions for creating readable Excalidraw diagrams as inline SVGs in a documentation website. Excalidraw is a diagramming tool with a hand-drawn visual style.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create architecture diagrams, flow diagrams, and other visual documentation using JSON data, React wrapper components, and embedded SVG.
Why use it?
It provides a consistent way to build architecture and process diagrams that fit the site and avoid text clipping or broken shapes.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00042 $0.01888
Opus 5 $0.00021 $0.00944
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00378
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00189

Security

Grade A, and why

excalidraw-diagrams scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Excalidraw Diagram Guidelines

These rules produce clean, readable, customer-facing diagrams embedded as inline SVG in the Tigris docs site.

CRITICAL — Read Before Writing Any Diagram

NEVER use label properties on shapes. This is the #1 source of broken diagrams. The label property causes text to overflow and clip outside boxes. Always create a separate text element positioned inside the shape. See the example below.

Embedding Pattern

Diagrams are embedded as React components that render inline SVG. Each diagram has three parts:

  1. JSON data file in src/components/diagrams/data/<name>.json — an array of Excalidraw-style element objects
  2. Wrapper component in src/components/diagrams/<Name>Diagram.tsx — thin wrapper that imports the JSON and passes it to ExcalidrawDiagram
  3. MDX import in the doc page — imports the wrapper and renders it inside a <div className="mermaid-frame">

Wrapper component template

import React from "react";
import ExcalidrawDiagram from "./ExcalidrawDiagram";
import elements from "./data/<name>.json";

export default function <Name>Diagram() {
  return <ExcalidrawDiagram elements={elements} />;
}

MDX usage

Add a mermaid-syntax HTML comment above the diagram for agent readability, then render the component:

{/_ <!-- Mermaid UML description for AI agents:
graph LR
  A[Component] --> B[Component] --> _/}

<div className="mermaid-frame">
  <NameDiagram />
</div>

JSON Data Format — Correct Example

This shows the RIGHT way to put text inside a box — as a separate text element, not a label:

[
  {
    "type": "rectangle",
    "id": "mybox",
    "x": 50,
    "y": 100,
    "width": 200,
    "height": 55,
    "backgroundColor": "#142229",
    "fillStyle": "solid",
    "roundness": { "type": 3 },
    "strokeColor": "#2a4050",
    "strokeWidth": 2
  },
  {
    "type": "text",
    "id": "myboxlbl",
    "x": 75,
    "y": 113,
    "text": "My Label",
    "fontSize": 16,
    "fontFamily": 1,
    "strokeColor": "#c8d6de"
  }
]

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

excalidraw-diagrams is a skill published in the GitHub repository Xe/agent-plugins (2 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 42 tokens to every session and 1,888 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
