pytest

pytest is a skill for Claude Code from xobotyi/cc-foundry. It costs 38 tokens per session (3,779 once invoked), scanned B, original, MIT.

A set of practices for pytest, Python's standard testing framework, covering test structure, fixtures, parameterized tests, patches, plugins, and coverage.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when writing, reviewing, configuring, or debugging pytest tests in Python projects.
Why use it?
It helps agents create readable tests for behavior instead of tying tests to internal implementation details.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00038 $0.03779
Opus 5.5 $0.00015 $0.01512
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00756
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00378

Security

Grade B, and why

pytest scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Strips warnings and disclaimersmediumAnti-refusal

Omitting safety caveats hides risk from the user and is a common jailbreak preamble.

When **reviewing** tests: cite the specific issue and show the fix inline. Don't lecture — state what's wrong and how to

pytest

Test behavior, not implementation. Tests are executable documentation — if the test name doesn't explain what the code does, rewrite it.

pytest is Python's standard testing framework. It uses plain assert statements, fixtures for setup/teardown, and a rich plugin ecosystem. All patterns target Python 3.14+.

Test Structure

Discovery and Naming

  • Files: test_*.py or *_test.py. Prefer test_<module>.py matching source module.
  • Functions: test_<behavior> — describe the behavior, not the method: test_returns_empty_list_when_no_matches not test_search.
  • Classes: TestClassName groups related tests. No __init__ method. Use classes when tests share setup; use bare functions for independent tests.
  • conftest.py is auto-discovered — no import needed. Place shared fixtures at the appropriate directory level.

Arrange-Act-Assert

Structure every test in three phases:

def test_user_creation_sets_defaults():
    # Arrange
    data = {"name": "Alice", "email": "[email protected]"}

    # Act
    user = User.from_dict(data)

    # Assert
    assert user.name == "Alice"
    assert user.is_active is True
    assert user.roles == []
  • One act per test. If you need multiple acts, write multiple tests.
  • Comments optional when phases are obvious. Add when the test is long enough that phases aren't immediately clear.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

pytest is a skill published in the GitHub repository xobotyi/cc-foundry (22 stars, last pushed 7d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 38 tokens to every session and 3,779 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it B with 1 finding (strips warnings and disclaimers). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-04.
