steady-state-sidecar-sync

steady-state-sidecar-sync is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ychampion/cskill-agents. It costs 29 tokens per session (319 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A synchronization pattern that rebuilds derived sidecar caches from the main installed-state registry even when no new installation occurred.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it during startup or reconciliation to refresh extension metadata mirrors safely and repeatedly.
Why use it?
It repairs missing mirror data in temporary environments where the primary state survives but derived caches do not.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00029 $0.00319
Opus 5 $0.00015 $0.00160
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00064
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00032

Security

Grade A, and why

steady-state-sidecar-sync scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

SKILL: Steady-State Sidecar Sync

Domain: extensions-mcp Trigger: Use when a derived cache or mirror can disappear between runs even though the primary installation state did not change this time. Source Pattern: Distilled from reviewed authoritative-state to sidecar-cache synchronization flows.

Core Method

Rebuild sidecar or mirror caches from authoritative state after reconciliation settles, even when the primary changed signal is false. Ephemeral environments often lose derived artifacts while retaining the main installed set, so gating sidecar sync only on new installs leaves fresh processes under-provisioned. Keep the sync idempotent and conceptually separate from the main change signal.

Key Rules

  • Treat the authoritative installed state as the source of truth for rebuilding sidecars.
  • Do not gate sidecar maintenance solely on new installs from the current run.
  • Keep sidecar sync idempotent so it is safe on every startup.

Example Application

If worker nodes derive a local metadata mirror from the installed extension registry, rebuild that mirror on each boot even when no extension was newly installed.

Anti-Patterns (What NOT to do)

  • Do not assume unchanged primary state means derived caches are still present.
  • Do not couple quiet maintenance syncs to user-visible change notifications by default.
  • Do not rebuild sidecars before the primary materialized state is settled.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

steady-state-sidecar-sync is a skill published in the GitHub repository ychampion/cskill-agents (36 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 29 tokens to every session and 319 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
